Pelosi to reporter asking on abortion: 'I'm not going there'

Washington (CNN) – House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi got into a heated back and forth Thursday with a reporter inquiring about a measure that would ban abortions after 20 weeks of pregnancy, alleging the comparison the journalist made to a criminal abortion doctor in Philadelphia was made for political purposes.

The clash came the day after Rep. Trent Franks – the creator of the 20 week abortion proposal - caused outrage when he said the "incidents of rape resulting in pregnancy are very low." He later clarified his remarks.

Sanford focused on Pelosi in run up to vote

(CNN) - She's the other woman in a special congressional election in South Carolina that's captured national attention.

No. We're not talking about Maria Belen Chapur, the woman from Argentina who in 2009 was involved in an affair with Gov. Mark Sanford. Fast forward to 2013 and the former governor is now divorced from his wife and engaged to Chapur, and he's seeking political redemption as he runs for a vacant House seat that he once held for three terms. Sanford's been very open about the affair on the campaign trail making it the subject of his first political ad.

Pelosi: Republicans 'irresponsible' on same-sex marriage

(CNN) – Republicans who voted to spend millions in taxpayer dollars defending the federal ban on same-sex marriage are "irresponsible," the House Democratic leader Rep. Nancy Pelosi argued Wednesday.

Speaking to reporters after attending oral arguments at the Supreme Court on the legality of the Defense of Marriage Act, Pelosi said the decision by GOP leaders in the House to pay to defend DOMA in court was a violation of lawmakers' oaths to uphold the Constitution.

Obama meetings couldn't have prevented gridlock, Pelosi says

(CNN) – The stalemate in Washington is not because President Barack Obama has held himself above meeting with Republicans, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi said Sunday.

In an exclusive interview on CNN's "State of the Union," the chamber's top Democrat said Obama respects congressional Republicans and called "just really not reality" the idea that Obama could have prevented gridlock by meeting with the GOP sooner.

Obama outreach to 'defuse' GOP opposition, Pelosi says

(CNN) – Breaking bread with Republican senators. Meeting with the GOP House and Senate caucuses. Sitting down to lunch with the GOP’s budget point man – who tried to bump him from the White House last year.

Is President Barack Obama, as one pundit said, just hungry? Or is he engaging in a newfound effort to bridge gaps between the parties as his second term gets under way? The top Democrat in the House says the latter.

'We've had plenty of spending cuts,' says Pelosi

Washington (CNN) – As lawmakers continue looking for ways to reduce the federal deficit, House Democratic leaders remain committed to a program that includes tax increases and some spending cuts.

That was the message from Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi, who said Sunday that cuts, if they come, must be from subsidies to oil companies rather than from Medicaid, Social Security or Pell grants.
