Pelosi: McCain's claims on leaks 'a sad statement'

Washington (CNN) - House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi on Thursday dismissed Sen. John McCain's accusation that the recent spate of leaks about U.S. intelligence operations was politically motivated, calling the claim a "really a sad statement."

After the White House characterized McCain's remarks as "grossly irresponsible" on Wednesday, the Arizona Republican stood his ground, releasing a tough statement that repeated his assertion.

Pelosi: Hillary Clinton's 'our shot' in 2016

(CNN) – House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi kept the “Hillary Clinton for president in 2016” refrain alive in an interview published Sunday.

“Why wouldn’t she run? She’s a magnificent secretary of state,” Pelosi told the San Francisco Chronicle when asked about Clinton’s 2016 ambitions. “She’s our shot.”

Obama, congressional leaders talk about debt

Washington (CNN) – President Barack Obama and congressional leaders met Wednesday to discuss upcoming budget deadlines, one day after House Speaker John Boehner drew a line in the sand over what could be another bitter showdown between the White House and Congress later this year.

The president focused on his "to-do list" for Capitol Hill, a five-step plan of fiscal policies the White House says is aimed at building economic growth. But Boehner's office said the meeting largely centered on the next scheduled debt ceiling hike, set to go to a vote at the end of the year, along with a "fiscal cliff" of expiring tax policies and new spending cuts coming before Congress, all by January 1.

White House: Obama would veto GOP student loan plan

Washington (CNN) - The White House said Friday that President Barack Obama would veto a Republican measure passed by the House to extend lower interest rates on federal student loans because it takes money from a health care fund that benefits women.

A White House statement said Obama's senior advisers would recommend a veto if the House measure, which passed 215-195 on a largely party-line vote, were to win Senate approval and reach the president's desk.

Pelosi's specific Supreme Court health care prediction

(CNN) – House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi bucked the assessment of Supreme Court analysts and pundits Tuesday by predicting a favorable ruling from the court on President Barack Obama's sweeping health care law.

Speaking at a luncheon meeting in New York, Pelosi predicted the court would uphold the Affordable Care and Prevention Act's constitutionality with a 6-3 decision.

Pelosi aims to draw contrast with GOP on contraception policy

Washington (CNN) – Aiming to draw a sharp contrast with a Republican-organized hearing a week ago that included an all-male panel of witnesses, House Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi convened her Policy Committee Thursday to talk about the president's new contraception rule and featured a single witness – the woman the GOP wouldn't allow to testify.

Pelosi mocked House Oversight Committee Chairman Darrell Issa's explanation for rejecting the Democrats' chosen witness for last week's hearing - Sandra Fluke, a law student. He argued she wasn't qualified to appear on the panel because the subject was meant to be about religious freedom, not birth control or health care policy.

Contraception controversy continues

Washington (CNN) - A week ago, House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi ridiculed a hearing organized by Republicans for featuring a panel of all male witnesses on the president's contraception policy.

On Thursday she's keeping the issue front and center and having her own event featuring a female witness the GOP barred from testifying.
