Weiner says he's considering mayoral bid

(CNN) - Former Rep. Anthony Weiner, who resigned in 2011 amid scandal over a lewd photo sent via Twitter, confirmed in an interview published Wednesday that he's considering a political comeback, with a New York City mayoral bid on his radar.

The Democrat admitted he's eying this year's mayor's race in a lengthy New York Times Magazine article that detailed his life with wife Huma Abedin, a close aide to former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, and their attempts to stay out of the limelight over the past two years-until now.

Prosecutors: N.Y. Democrat tried to bribe way onto GOP mayoral ballot

(CNN) - New York state Sen. Malcolm Smith and New York City Councilman Dan Halloran were arrested Tuesday morning on charges they schemed to fix the city's 2013 mayoral election through fraud and bribery, according to prosecutors.

The U.S. attorney's office in Manhattan alleges that Smith, a Democrat, bribed Halloran, a Republican, to help guarantee Smith a spot on the Republican ballot in the November election.

(CNN) - Christine Quinn, New York's leading Democratic mayoral candidate, says she's not going to apologize for her reportedly brazen temper as speaker of the City Council.

"Sometimes you have to push hard to get that done, but my job isn't to make people smile," she said Wednesday on CNN's "Newsroom." "My job is to deliver for New Yorkers."

(CNN) - Vice President Joe Biden's meeting with House Democrats on Saturday was nothing of the "charm offensive" that brought his boss to Capitol Hill earlier this month.

Instead, the vice president chided congressional Republicans, claiming negotiating with them was nearly impossible.

NRA sues over New York gun control

(CNN) - The National Rifle Association's New York state affiliate filed a federal lawsuit Thursday in Buffalo contesting the constitutionality of the SAFE Act, the sweeping gun-control bill Gov. Andrew Cuomo signed into law in January, the group announced in a press release.

The new laws fortify New York's existing assault weapons ban, limit the number of bullets allowed in ammunition magazines and strengthen rules that govern the mentally ill, which includes a requirement to report potentially harmful behavior.

Hillary Clinton to speak next month in New York

(CNN) – Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton will make one of her first public appearances since leaving the Obama administration when she speaks at the annual Women in the World Summit next month, the Daily Beast and Newsweek, presenters of the summit, announced Thursday.

Clinton has attended the New York summit every year since it started in 2010. This year's event takes place April 4 and 5.

(CNN) - Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey is based in San Francisco, but has said being mayor of New York City would be his dream job,

The "desire to be mayor is more of an aspirational kind, or raising the bar of how I should be thinking," Dorsey said on CNN's "The Lead with Jake Tapper."

Bloomberg explains new push against tobacco

(CNN) - New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg said his latest push to keep tobacco products out of sight is an attempt to de-glamorize the appeal of the product for kids and teenagers.

"Smoking is going to kill these kids," he said Monday on CNN's "The Lead" in an interview with Chief Washington Correspondent Jake Tapper. "It's going to leave them with not the great career prospects that you'd like, not the education that you'd like."

VIDEO: Congressman enters the boxing ring

(CNN) – During a fundraising event, Republican Rep. Peter King of New York took to the boxing ring to fight former kickboxing champ Josh Foley.

King, 68, has been training for several years and went head to head for two rounds with Foley, who's almost 40 years younger than him, in Long Island Saturday night.
