Lhota, a deputy mayor under former GOP Mayor Rudy Giuliani and former head of the city transit authority, faced off against his Democratic opponent, New York City Public Advocate Bill de Blasio, in the first of three debates leading up to the November mayoral election. The two men are seeking to succeed outgoing three-term Mayor Michael Bloomberg.

According to a new NBC4 New York/Wall Street Journal/Marist survey, de Blasio, the city's public advocate, tops Lhota, the former chairman of New York's transit authority and deputy mayor to then GOP Mayor Rudy Giuliani, 65%-22% among likely voters. Independent candidate and former Bronx Borough President Adolfo Carrion stands at 3%.
New York (CNN) - Former City Comptroller Bill Thompson ended his bid for New York City mayor Monday and endorse Bill de Blasio.
Speaking to reporters at a news conference on the steps of City Hall, Thompson made his announcement surrounded by city and state-wide New York Democratic leaders. Thompson had been holding out since last Tuesday's Democratic primary hoping for the possibility of a runoff in the primary.

Deputy Mayor Howard Wolfson tweeted Friday that Bloomberg "will not be making an endorsement in Mayor's race. Will focus on governing and transition," he wrote.
