Gingrich's 'fiscal cliff' lessons from budget battles with Clinton

(CNN) - Newt Gingrich, a former Republican House speaker who knows something of negotiating with a Democratic president over budget issues, laid out his "fiscal cliff" advice to Republicans Tuesday on CNN’s “Piers Morgan Tonight:” if necessary, go over the cliff without a deal.

"I am frankly not at all encouraged by what I see and a little bit worried by it," he said, assessing the negotiations - apparently now in impasse - in Washington to avert the tax increases and spending cuts which lay ahead in the new year.

Gingrich has 'no idea' about 2016

(CNN) - Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, who gave Mitt Romney some trouble in the Republican presidential primaries, said the GOP would have to make big changes before he'd consider another White House run.

"I have no idea at this stage," Gingrich, 69, said Sunday about the possibility of a future campaign while taking part in a book-signing tour in Florida, according to the Naples Daily News.

(CNN) - Newt Gingrich had harsh words Sunday for GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney’s suggestion that he lost the election because President Barack Obama offered “gifts” to African-Americans, Hispanics, and young voters.

“I just think it’s nuts,” Gingrich said on ABC. “I mean, first of all, it's insulting.”

Richardson, Gingrich spar over candidates' foreign policy strengths

(CNN) – Former New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich both said Sunday that Libya is a strong point of contention on foreign policy - the subject of Monday night's presidential debate - but argued over which candidate has more leverage on the topic.

Speaking on CNN's "State of the Union," Gingrich said the Obama administration's handling of last month's attacks on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi, Libya, which resulted in the deaths of four Americans, will be a tough record to defend.

Gingrich hits Romney in frank assessment

(CNN) - Mitt Romney's former rival Newt Gingrich issued a harsh assessment of the GOP nominee's campaign strategy Wednesday, saying Romney's presidential bid was struggling in key battlegrounds against President Barack Obama because of a messaging failure.

"The Romney campaign has yet to find a thematic way of explaining itself and laying out in a clear, crisp way the difference between Romney and Obama. And I think that frankly is a problem," Gingrich said on CNN's "The Situation Room."

Gingrich to Romney: Do to Obama what you did to me

(CNN) - Newt Gingrich on Friday urged Mitt Romney to go after President Barack Obama in next month's debates with a gusto the former House speaker knows well.

"When he walks in to debate Obama, he's got to be as tough with Obama as he was with me in Florida," Gingrich said in an interview on CNN's "Piers Morgan Tonight."

Gingrich: Clinton a ‘real’ president, Obama a ‘pretender’

(CNN) - Newt Gingrich sought to put a wedge between President Barack Obama and former President Bill Clinton on Sunday, saying parts of Clinton’s speech at the Democratic National Convention were “eerily anti-Obama.”

“You can take his speech, spin it not very much, and it's actually a condemnation of the fact that Obama learned nothing ... out of the 2010 election,” Gingrich said on CNN’s “State of the Union.”

Huckabee, Gingrich blast Rove for 'murder' comment, both citing Giffords

(CNN) - Newt Gingrich and Mike Huckabee both had harsh words for conservative strategist Karl Rove on Sunday after Rove joked about murdering GOP U.S. Rep. Todd Akin, whose controversial comments about rape and pregnancy drew the ire and condemnation of most Republicans. Both Gingrich and Huckabee referred to former U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords as they condemned Rove's joke.

"We should sink Todd Akin. If he's found mysteriously murdered, don't look for my whereabouts," Rove said Thursday at a private fund-raiser, according to a Businessweek reporter who was not supposed to be there.
