A year after the 2012 election, Romney talks 2016

Washington (CNN) – Former GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney dismissed reports that he passed over New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie as his running mate because of Christie’s weight.

On NBC's "Meet the Press," the former Massachusetts governor told David Gregory that Christie's size and health had nothing to do with his not being picked for the GOP ticket.

Report: Obama campaign considered replacing Biden with Hillary Clinton

Washington (CNN) - President Barack Obama's closest advisers may have secretly considered replacing Vice President Joe Biden with Hillary Clinton on the 2012 ticket, but White House spokesman Jay Carney said Friday that it was never a remote possibility.

"Campaigns test everything," Carney said on CNN's "New Day." "When it comes to this particular issue, do campaigns test everything? Yes."

While he said the idea was "tested," Carney insisted that it wasn't going to happen.

Paul Ryan: HHS secretary should step down over Obamacare

(CNN) - Rep. Paul Ryan on Tuesday joined a growing list of Republicans who want Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius to step down over rampant problems in the launch of Obamacare’s HealthCare.gov.

The 2012 GOP vice presidential nominee was on a conference call with reporters, helping fellow Republican and Virginia gubernatorial candidate Ken Cuccinelli make the case against a Medicaid expansion in the state championed by Cuccinelli’s opponent, Democrat Terry McAuliffe.

Playing nice: Budget talks may start with an extra-friendly tone

Washington (CNN) – Catch your breath. And get ready for another fight. The next fiscal faceoff in Congress is likely to start in just over a week.

That's when the group of nearly 30 lawmakers charged with working out a budget plan for the government plans to hold its first meeting, Sen. Jeff Sessions, R-Alabama, told CNN after he and three other top congressional budget leaders sat down Thursday morning. Sessions is the ranking Republican on the Senate Budget Committee.

Shutdown vote 2016 impact

Washington (CNN) - The vote to end the shutdown took place in October 2013, but it may provide some clues about the 2016 race for the White House.

There are a bunch of potential presidential hopefuls in Congress, but since all Democrats voted lockstep to back a compromise to reopen the government and raise the debt ceiling, it's the Republican votes that are more interesting.

Can Ryan and Obama reopen the government; beat debt limit deadline?

Washington (CNN) - Republican Rep. Paul Ryan of Wisconsin is two for two.

The Republican from Janesville, Wisconsin, has successfully appeased House Republicans and engaged President Barack Obama in as little as 48 hours. A feat near impossible in these times of extreme partisanship.

Sources: Key moment in White House meeting came between the President and Paul Ryan

According to multiple sources familiar with the meeting, the President and House Republicans had been going around and around for about an hour with no resolution on a path forward. Republicans emphasizing, over and over, what the House Speaker laid out: pass a six-week debt ceiling extension, then sit down immediately and start negotiating. The negotiations would begin with discussions to fund and re-open the government. The president kept pressing Republicans to re-open the government right away.

Ryan leaves drama to others; coolly steps in at key moment

Washington (CNN) - For more than a week into a government shutdown, Paul Ryan kept a low profile amid the political uproar.
