CNN/ORC Poll: Dem support for Obama's re-election fades

Washington (CNN) – Barack Obama's base is behind another term for the president, according to a new CNN/ORC International poll.

Seven in 10 Democrats say they'd like to see Obama as their party's presidential nominee next year.

CNN/ORC Poll: Most Americans dislike debt deal, think lawmakers acted like 'spoiled children'

(Updated 12:05 p.m. ET)

(CNN) - A majority of Americans disapprove of the deal struck Sunday by President Barack Obama and congressional leaders that will raise the country's legal borrowing limit, and three out of four believe elected officials have acted like "spoiled children."

According to a CNN/ORC International poll conducted Monday during a House of Representatives vote on the legislation, 52 percent of Americans say they are opposed to the debt ceiling deal while 44 percent are in favor of it. The Senate passed the legislation Tuesday in a 74-26 vote.

Pessimism overflowing in new poll

(CNN) - While most Americans are feeling a fiscal pinch, a new poll reveals a stunning amount of pessimism over the long-term outlook of the nation's economy.

According to a CNN/ORC poll released Monday, 84 percent of Americans feel the economy is in poor shape. While some expect economic conditions to improve, a majority-59 percent-believes the economy will still be in poor shape one year from now. It's the first time in the 14 years that CNN has asked the question that a majority has been pessimistic about the country's economic future.

CNN Poll: Drop in liberal support pushes Obama approval rating down

Washington (CNN) – President Barack Obama's approval rating is down to 45 percent, driven in part by growing dissatisfaction on the left with the president's track record in office, according to a new national survey.

A CNN/ORC International Poll also indicates that the Republican "brand" is taking a beating in the minds of Americans.

CNN Poll: Perry near the top in GOP nomination race

Washington (CNN) - As Texas Gov. Rick Perry comes closer and closer to jumping into the race for the White House, he's also close to the top of a new national survey in the battle for the GOP presidential nomination.

A CNN/ORC International Poll released Friday indicates that 14 percent of Republicans and independents who lean towards the GOP pick Perry as their first choice for their party's nomination, just two points behind former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, who's making his second bid for the White House. Romney's two point margin over Perry is within the survey's sampling error.

CNN Poll: Strong partisan divide on debt ceiling

Washington (CNN) – Americans are hungry for a solution to the debt ceiling debate but there is a big partisan divide that isn't going to make a solution easy to achieve, according to a new national survey.

And a CNN/ORC International Poll also indicates that while Democrats and independent voters are open to a number of different approaches, Republicans draw the line at tax increases, and many of them oppose raising the nation's debt ceiling under any circumstances.

CNN Poll: 50 percent say ending shuttle program is bad for country

Washington (CNN) - Half of all Americans say that the end of the space shuttle program is bad for the country, according to a new national survey released as the last shuttle mission came to a close.

And a CNN/ORC International Poll also indicates that most of the public wants to U.S. to develop a new spacecraft that will send astronauts into space, but a majority say they would prefer that private enterprise rather than a government program achieve that goal.

CNN Poll: Republicans want a winner

Manchester, New Hampshire (CNN) - One day before a CNN/WMUR/New Hampshire Union Leader Republican presidential debate, a new national poll suggests that when it comes to the next election for the White House, Republicans put winning over ideological purity.

According to a CNN/Opinion Research Corporation survey released Sunday morning, three-quarters of Republicans and GOP leaning independent voters say they want a party nominee who can defeat President Barack Obama in 2012, even if that person doesn't agree with them on every issue. That's up seven percentage points from January.

CNN Poll: Promotion of family values being trumped by economy?

Washington (CNN) – The number of Americans who say that government should promote traditional values in society has fallen below 50 percent for the first time since CNN began asking this poll question in 1993.

And according to a CNN/Opinion Research Corporation survey released Sunday morning, the number who say that the government should not favor any set of values is now at 50 percent, the highest it has ever been in CNN polling.

CNN Poll: Majority oppose individual mandate

Washington (CNN) - As a federal appeals court hears a lawsuit against the new health care law, a new national poll indicates that a majority of Americans oppose the provision in the measure that mandates heath insurance coverage.

According to a CNN/Opinion Research Corporation poll released Thursday, by a 54 to 44 percent margin, the public opposes the individual mandate in the law, which is scheduled to take effect in the next few years.
