CNN Poll: Wide divide over abortion

Washington (CNN) – About one in four Americans say that abortion should be legal in all circumstances, one in five say abortion should always be illegal, and slightly over half the public thinks abortion should be legal in some, but not all, circumstances, according to a national poll released Thursday.

A CNN/ORC International survey also indicates that a majority opposes taxpayer money being used to pay for abortions for women who can't afford the procedure, with Americans split on whether women who receive government subsidies for health insurance should be able to get a plan that covers abortions.

Polls: Positive opinions of Russia, Putin plunge

(CNN) - As Russia hosts the Winter Olympic Games, a second straight national poll indicates that Americans' opinions of Russia have plunged.

According to a Gallup poll released Thursday, six out of 10 Americans have an unfavorable view of Russia, with just 34% holding a favorable view of the country. That's a switch from 2012, when 44% had an unfavorable view and half the public had a favorable opinion of Russia.

That's the headline from a new national poll that comes as Republicans push back against Democratic claims the GOP is out of touch on female issues and is waging a war on women.

CNN Poll: Pathway to citizenship trumps border security

Washington (CNN) - Americans overwhelmingly favor a bill that would give most undocumented immigrants a pathway towards citizenship, according to a new national poll.

And a CNN/ORC International survey also indicates that a majority of the public says that the government's main focus should be legalizing the status of the undocumented rather than border security.

Washington (CNN) - It may be the least hyped but most surprising number in a new CNN/ORC International poll on the next race for the White House.

According to the survey, 70% of Democrats and independents who lean toward the Democratic Party say they'd be likely to support Hillary Clinton as their party's nominee.

CNN Poll: Majority of Americans expect terrorist attack at Olympics

(CNN) - Nearly six in 10 Americans think a terrorist attack will likely happen in Sochi during the Winter Olympics, according to a new CNN/ORC International poll released Wednesday, two days before the opening ceremony.

Islamist militants have warned of attacks as Russia makes final preparations for the sporting events in the South Russia region.

Poll: Majority of Americans want government to reduce income gap

(CNN) – A majority of Americans surveyed believe the government should work to reduce the income gap between rich and the poor, according to a new national poll.

A CNN/ORC International survey released Wednesday indicates more than six in 10 Americans strongly or somewhat agree that the government should work to narrow that gap, compared to 30% who believe it should not.

CNN/ORC Poll: Majority say Obama's policies will fail

Washington (CNN) – President Barack Obama's approval rating has edged up a bit since the end of last year, according to a new national poll.

But a CNN/ORC International survey also indicates the number of Americans who hope that his policies will succeed has dropped 12 points since last year and a majority now predicts that his policies will fail.

CNN Poll: Speech watcher reaction less positive than previous years

Washington (CNN) – Less than half of those surveyed who watched President Barack Obama's State of the Union address reacted very positively to it, a new poll showed.

And a while the President emphasized in his speech on Tuesday night that he's willing to bypass Congress and take executive action to accomplish his goals, a CNN/ORC International survey also indicated that only three in 10 said Obama should make unilateral changes to deal with major issues.

CNN Poll: Public not sold yet on Colorado marijuana law

Washington (CNN) – Americans may support the general concept of legalizing the use of marijuana, but according to a new national poll, they are taking a wait-and-see attitude toward the way Colorado is actually implementing its new law that makes the sale of marijuana to adults legal.

And a CNN/ORC International survey released Wednesday also indicates that a majority seem to hope that the federal government will lay off Colorado when it comes to enforcing federal law, which still outlaws the sale or possession of pot.
