Chris Christie's big day

updated at 1:00pm ET Friday

Washington (CNN) - It's an important day for Chris Christie.

Of the nine potential Republican presidential candidates speaking at the fifth annual Road to the Majority conference, which is organized by Ralph Reed's Faith and Freedom Coalition, one may be in the glare of the spotlight more than the others. And that's Christie, the pragmatic conservative governor of New Jersey who's anything but a crowd favorite among some on the right.

Ralph Reed: Was Obama a ‘bigot’ before endorsing same-sex marriage?

(CNN) - Faith and Freedom Coalition chairman Ralph Reed sparred with MSNBC host Rachel Maddow on Sunday, saying opponents of same-sex marriage should not be viewed as intolerant.

His comments came after Maddow said on NBC's "Meet the Press" that those who oppose the right for gay and lesbian couples to legally wed think public policy should "demean gay people as a way of expressing disapproval of the fact that we exist."

Cultural and economic conservatives team up hoping for 2012 success

Washington (CNN) – It'll surely get ugly, so they say they'll need backup.

Reed aims to keep his momentum

Washington (CNN)–"We think it's a great weekend but it's not just about a confab," Ralph Reed said as he took a break from hustling from one end of the ballroom to the next after wrapping up interviews with ABC and CNN's Eliot Spitzer. Day one at the Faith and Freedom Coalition conference was a big success, Reed said.

"The purpose of this conference is to build the organization. It's to train people to teach people and then they go back to their communities and keep growing and building."

Washington (CNN) - Ralph Reed beamed in the back corner of the colonial ballroom at Washington, DC's Mayflower Hotel as Republican Congressman Lynn Westmoreland spoke. Reed clapped the loudest as Westmoreland laid out the plan for social conservatives to get involved in November's mid term elections.

"We need you in November worse than you can imagine," Westmoreland told the crowed at the Faith and Freedom Conference and Strategy Briefing.

Of course, this is also Reed's handiwork. He's the former head of the Christian Coalition and now the head of the Faith and Freedom Coalition. He organized the conference to bring high-powered conservatives to address the conference to help mobilize faith voters.
