Chris Christie: The $60 million man

Washington (CNN) – It appears the George Washington Bridge controversy New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie's dealing with this year back in the Garden State hasn't affected his standing as one of the GOP's most potent fundraising rainmakers.

The Republican Governors Association announced Thursday that it's raised $60 million since Christie was elected chairman of the organization last November.

Scottsdale, Arizona (CNN) – Calls to overhaul the nation’s immigration laws will fade away as soon as Mexico jump-starts its economy, Texas Gov. Rick Perry predicted Wednesday.

Perry, speaking to reporters at the Republican Governors Association’s annual conference in Arizona, ridiculed Democratic efforts to pass a comprehensive immigration reform bill without first enhancing security along the Texas-Mexico border.

FIRST ON CNN: Jindal and Christie set to lead Republican Governors Association

Washington (CNN) – Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal and New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie are slated to lead the Republican Governors Association through the next two election cycles, a post that would give both of the rising GOP stars a national platform to seek the presidency should Mitt Romney falter in November.

Under an arrangement that appears to have the blessing of RGA member governors as well as both the Jindal and Christie camps, Jindal will serve as RGA Chairman in 2013, when the Virginia and New Jersey governorships are up for grabs.

Republicans out-raise Democrats among gubernatorial committees

(CNN) - The Republican Governors Association raised $16.7 million in the second quarter of the year, out-raising their Democratic counterparts by over $3 million, the groups said on Monday.

The Democratic Governors Association said it brought in $13 million in the second quarter, which includes April, May, and June.

McDonnell promises to take sides in potential GOP showdown

Orlando, Florida (CNN) - Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli's apparent decision to run for governor in 2013 sets the stage for a potentially bloody Republican primary fight against Lt. Gov. Bill Bolling, who has long been laying the groundwork for a gubernatorial bid of his own.

In an unusual twist, though, Virginia's current governor Bob McDonnell will be taking sides in the primary and supporting Bolling.

Kasich 'pleased' by auto recovery, but won't take sides in bailout dispute

Orlando (CNN) - Ohio Gov. John Kasich said Wednesday he is grateful for the recovery of the American automobile industry, a cornerstone of Ohio's manufacturing sector for decades.

But in an interview with CNN, the Republican refused to wade into an ongoing dispute between Democrats and GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney over the federal bailout of the auto industry.

Christie: Cain fumbled response to scandals

Orlando, Florida (CNN) - New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie suggested Wednesday that embattled Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain mishandled the multiple scandals engulfing his once-soaring campaign.

But Christie, a leading voice in the Republican Party who is backing former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney in the presidential race, said Cain has to decide on his own whether or not to abandon his White House bid.

Ad wars heat up as West Virginia gubernatorial battle comes to a close

(CNN) - With six days left until a gubernatorial election in West Virginia, it seems Democrats are bringing out the big gun.

In the final television commercial of his campaign, Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin is going up on West Virginia airwaves Wednesday with an ad that highlights the support he's getting from Sen. Joe Manchin, a fellow Democrat, former governor, and one of the most popular politicians in the state.

RGA's Medicaid reform report

Washington (CNN) – On the day that congressional Republicans appointed to the "super committee" meet for the first time, GOP governors are looking for more flexibility in reforming Medicaid.

Mississippi Governor Haley Barbour said a Medicaid reform report produced Tuesday by the Republican Governors Association should be "helpful" for the congressional super committee.
