Republican National Committee rejects push for closed primaries

Tampa, Florida (CNN) – Republicans rejected a measure Wednesday that would have ensured more ideological purity within the party ranks during presidential elections.

The measure, drafted by Indiana Committeeman Jim Bopp, would have rewarded states holding closed Republican primaries with extra delegates to the Republican National Convention, giving those states more muscle in the presidential nominating process.

Priebus: RNC won't support Akin in Senate race

(CNN) - Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus further urged Rep. Todd Akin to drop his U.S. Senate bid in Missouri, saying Tuesday the party is already halting its efforts to back the congressman.

"We're not going to send any money toward that race or spend money on the ground in that particular race. We're obviously going to work very hard for a nominee in Missouri up and down the ticket, congressional seats. But I've already called off the phone banks and all of the volunteers for Congressman Akin's race there," Priebus said on CNN's "The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer."

Washington (CNN) - It's the same poll showing the same numbers, but both Republicans and Democrats see the benefit to their side in the latest CNN/ORC International survey gauging President Barack Obama's approval ratings.

Whether it's the benefits of rain from a dark cloud or that figurative silver lining, both the Republican National Committee and the Democratic National Committee sent emails to supporters Wednesday morning that touted findings from the same poll.

RNC mocks Obama's 'Debt-End Bus Tour'

(CNN) - The Republican National Committee offered up its take on President Obama's Midwest bus tour Monday with a three-pronged press offensive including a "Press Corps Briefing Book," a web ad, and radio spots that detail what they've termed "Obama's Debt-End Bus Tour."

The RNC describes the president's effort to engage in a public dialogue about job growth and the economy at town halls and economic forums as "a totally non-political taxpayer-funded administration event that just happens to criss-cross several battleground states critical to the president's re-election" in the Obama critique, which is disguised as a briefing book.
