Indiana board rules Lugar ineligible to vote in home district

(CNN) - An election commission in Indianapolis ruled Thursday that Sen. Richard Lugar is ineligible to vote in his former precinct, a blow to the Republican who has been battling residency questions amid a primary battle for reelection.

The Marion County Election Board voted 2-1 against Lugar and his wife in a vote along party lines, according to Angie Nussmeyer, a spokesperson for the board.

Lugar beats back residency challenge

(CNN) - Sen. Dick Lugar, the third most senior member of the Senate, triumphed Friday over challenges to his eligibility to pursue re-election as a candidate from Indiana because he no longer has a home there.

Lugar, who has lived in McLean, Virginia, since the sale of his Indianapolis home in 1977, had insisted that residency was not an issue for him since the Indiana state constitution stipulates he only had to be a resident to run for Senate during his first campaign.

(CNN) – Republican Sen. Dick Lugar said Sunday Republicans should support his candidacy if they want to hold onto his Indiana Senate seat in 2012.

Lugar questions what Pakistan knew about OBL

Washington (CNN) – Republican Sen. Richard Lugar continued on Sunday to question what Pakistan knew in the lead-up to Osama bin Laden's capture, saying it seems "logical" that people in the country were aware of his location.

"It appears to me very logical that if Osama bin Laden was in that home for six years of time, in a group of people that were connected with the military, then a lot of people in Pakistan knew about his whereabouts," the Indiana senator said on CNN's "State of the Union."'

Lugar questions Afghanistan withdrawal plan

Washington (CNN) - Republican Sen. Richard Lugar, the ranking member on the Senate Foreign Relations committee, on Sunday outlined his own plan for the drawdown of troops in Afghanistan, saying the removal of 10,000 to 25,000 troops after about 18 months would “satisfy our ability to fight terror.”

The Indiana senator said he would like to see more carefully defined objectives from the administration regarding U.S. troops in Afghanistan. A target date of 2014 was set by the Obama administration for ending U.S. and NATO combat in the country.
