GOP favorite to campaign for Indiana GOP Senate pick

(CNN) – Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida will be the first top name Republican to team up in person with Richard Mourdock, the two-term Indiana state treasurer who soundly defeated longtime Sen. Richard Lugar in last week's GOP Senate primary.

A Rubio aide confirmed to CNN that the first term senator, who's popular with Republican and conservative voters, will headline a fundraiser for Mourdock on June 4 in Carmel, Indiana.

Lugar's loss further polarizes U.S. Senate

Indianapolis, Indiana (CNN) - Richard Lugar's landslide loss in Tuesday's Indiana Republican primary isn't just a 36-year veteran getting tossed out of office before he wanted to go.

It's also the latest blow to the political center in an increasingly polarized Senate.

Lugar loss could make Indiana Senate race more competitive

Washington (CNN) - With longtime Republican Sen. Dick Lugar going down in defeat, Democrats were quick to paint the conservative candidate who beat him in Indiana's primary as "too extreme."

The result in Indiana was what Democrats had hoped for, but as the old proverb goes: "Be careful what you wish for, it might just come true."

Mourdock doesn't anticipate Senate compromise

(CNN) – Fresh off his Republican primary victory Tuesday, Indiana Senate candidate Richard Mourdock said he doesn't anticipate successful compromise in the Senate and hopes bipartisanship will be defined as Democrats backing the Republican agenda following the 2012 elections.

"I hope to build a conservative majority so bipartisanship becomes Democrats joining Republicans to roll back the size of government, reduce the bureaucracy and get America moving again," Mourdock said Wednesday on CNN's "Starting Point with Soledad O'Brien."
