Gov. Perry talks botched Oklahoma execution; potential 2016 run

Washington (CNN) – Texas Gov. Rick Perry said Sunday that while last week’s execution in Oklahoma was clearly botched, there’s no need for sweeping changes in capital punishment laws across the country.

Clayton Lockett, a convicted murderer, died almost 45 minutes after his execution began last week at the Oklahoma State Penitentiary in McAlester when one of his veins collapsed during the administration of a previously unused combination of lethal injection drugs.

Rick Perry challenges Andrew Cuomo to debate

(CNN) - Texas Gov. Rick Perry, who openly competes with other governors by trying to lure businesses to the Lone Star State, is now taking his strategy one step further.

He's challenging New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, a Democrat, to a debate on economic policy. Perry's office said he issued the challenge on Albany's Talk 1300 news radio.

An Ode to Dr. Seuss (and the politicians who misuse his work)

We do not like Seuss filibusters.

Such lengthy speeches are full of bluster.

We do not like them in the House.

We do not like them from Todd Palin’s spouse.

We do not like them here or there.

We do not like them anywhere.

Perry tells Kimmel: 'I do interviews with a gun'

(CNN) - Giving a hint at a possible second run for the White House, Texas Gov. Rick Perry said Tuesday on late night TV that, "America is a great place for second chances. Let's keep it at that."

Perry's answer came in an appearance on "Jimmy Kimmel Live," after the host asked the longtime GOP governor of Texas why he would want to make another presidential bid in 2016 after his 2012 campaign "didn't go so well."

Iowa poll gauges support for presidential retreads

(CNN) – A new survey asked Iowa voters about potential presidential candidates who’ve already run for the White House, and the results show some good news for Republicans Mike Huckabee and Paul Ryan.

But for Rick Santorum, who won the Iowa GOP caucuses in 2012 by a razor-thin margin, and Rick Perry, the results indicate Hawkeye State Republicans aren't quite as excited about the prospects of another presidential bid by the former Pennsylvania senator and the Texas governor. FULL POST

Perry: 'Time for a little rebellion'

National Harbor, Maryland (CNN) - Day two of the Conservative Political Action Conference – better known by its initials, CPAC – is underway at a major convention center at National Harbor, just south of the  nation's capital.

The conference is the largest annual gathering of conservative leaders and activists, and when there's no Republican in the White House, it's a must-attend cattle call for GOP presidential hopefuls looking to pass the conference's conservative litmus test.

One of those possible presidential contenders, Texas Gov. Rick Perry, said it was "time for a little rebellion on the battlefield of ideas,” while another potential White House candidate, Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky, gave what sounded like a presidential campaign stump speech.

Here are the latest developments:

Perry hoping for ‘a second chance’ from voters

National Harbor, Maryland (CNN) – On the heels of a rousing morning address to the Conservative Political Action Conference that brought a sleepy audience to its feet many times over, Texas Gov. Rick Perry had a bounce in his step.

He hosted a meet-and-greet with conservative activists, young and old, in a corner room at the Gaylord National Resort outside Washington. The line snaked out the door and down the hall. He crossed paths with major conservative donors.

What's behind Rick Perry's new specs?

(CNN) - Straying from his 2012 campaign trail all-American, no-frills persona, Rick Perry had a new look while making a round of media calls in Washington last week – a trendy pair of thick-rimmed glasses.

But the former presidential candidate's new specs aren't all about fashion.
