Washington (CNN) – Red state-blue state governors Rick Perry and Martin O’Malley debated job creation and healthcare on Wednesday, with Perry equating adding people to Medicaid via Obamacare with “putting tens of thousands on the Titanic knowing how it’s going to turn out.”

Both men are thought to be contenders for the White House in 2016 and on CNN’s “Crossfire,” they aired out some of the key issues that are likely to define their campaigns should they run.

Haley announces re-election bid in South Carolina

Greenville, South Carolina (CNN) - Surrounded by a massive American flag, a modest late-summer crowd and three governors with possible designs on the White House, South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley announced Monday that she will seek a second term.

At a brief, sun-drenched outdoor rally in downtown Greenville, Haley, one of the most vulnerable members of the 2010 class of Republican governors, asked for another four years in office and rattled off her accomplishments: more than 37,000 new jobs across the state, welfare reform, tax cuts and rigid opposition to President Barack Obama's health care reform law.

Updated at 12:29 p.m. ET on 7/18

Austin, Texas (CNN) - Amid heightened security, beaming supporters, and chants of ‘shame’ from dozens of black clad abortion-rights activists, Gov. Rick Perry signed Texas’ controversial Fetal Pain bill into a law Thursday.

“In signing House Bill 2, we celebrate further the cementing of the culture of life which Texas is built upon…children do deserve the respect of simple recognition before their lives are cut tragically short,” Perry said.

Perry defends strict abortion law in Texas

(CNN) – The bill placing new curbs on abortion that passed the Texas legislature last week isn’t anti-women, Gov. Rick Perry argued Sunday.

The contentious bill, which was filibustered last month by state Sen. Wendy Davis, bans abortions past 20 weeks of gestation, among several other provisions. It was approved by the Texas House on Wednesday, and the Senate voted Friday to send the bill to Perry.
