(CNN) - Supporters of a proposed high-speed rail system in Florida had hoped to get the project back on track Friday - the deadline to accept $2.4 billion in federal funds - but the Florida Supreme Court has ruled that Gov. Rick Scott can reject the money.
The court's decision Friday followed a lawsuit filed against the governor by two state senators - one Democrat and Republican - who claimed Scott would overstep his executive authority and be in violation of Florida's constitution if he did not accept the funds.

Washington (CNN) - Republican Florida Gov. Rick Scott rejected $432 million in highly-touted funding from the Obama administration for an Orlando to Tampa high-speed rail Wednesday. Slamming government for becoming "addicted to spending," Scott listed three reasons why accepting the federal funds would amount to a "recipe for disaster."

(CNN) – Republican Rick Scott has won Florida's governorship after Democratic rival Alex Sink conceded the tight race Wednesday morning.
With 89 percent of precincts reporting, Scott led by more than 53,000 votes out of more than 5 million cast, a 49-48 percent margin. Sink, the state's chief financial officer, said she and her advisers saw "no path to victory" in the outstanding count.

(CNN) – The race for Florida's open Senate seat may appear all but decided, however the Sunshine State's gubernatorial contest is anything but a runaway.
According to a Quinnipiac University poll released Monday, Florida's chief financial officer, Democrat Alex Sink, holds a razor thin 1-point lead over former health care executive Rick Scott. Among likely voters, Sink has 44 percent of the vote to Scott's 43 percent, with a key 9 percent still undecided. Sink's lead is well within the poll's margin of error.
"In the governor's race, the victor will be whoever wins a majority of the 9 percent of likely voters who remain undecided at this late date," said assistant director of polling, Peter A. Brown.

(CNN) - Florida Democratic gubernatorial candidate Alex Sink has a slight advantage over her opponent, Republican Rick Scott, according to the latest Quinnipiac University poll.
Sink, the state's chief financial officer, leads 45 percent to 41 percent over Scott, a former health care executive, while 11 percent of likely voters said they are still undecided in the October survey. Sink's four point advantage is within the poll's sampling error.

(CNN) – The two candidates for Florida governor came out swinging in their final debate, which was co-sponsored by CNN, the St. Petersburg Times and the University of South Florida.
Accusations from both sides flew fast and early in the debate, moderated by CNN Chief National Correspondent John King, as both candidates immediately began leveling their now-familiar lines of attack in one of the most hotly contested races in the country.
