Tenet's secret for Mueller

Washington (CNN) - Federal Bureau of Investigation Director Robert Mueller is known for his poker-faced demeanor, rarely betraying emotion as he led some of the most sensitive government investigations.

George Tenet, his friend and the former Central Intelligence Agency director, on Thursday offered a rare peek at Mueller battling to keep a straight face during public hearings. Mueller is leaving his post Sept. 4 after 12 years, and the Justice Department held a farewell ceremony to honor him.

Paul continues threat to hold FBI director nomination

(CNN) - Sen. Rand Paul is vowing to block a confirmation vote on the next FBI director unless he gets sufficient answers from the law enforcement agency about the use of surveillance drones in the United States.

The FBI revealed in a recently unclassified letter to the Kentucky Republican that it has used unmanned aerial vehicles for surveillance in 10 cases on U.S. soil - eight of them criminal and two involving national security.

Where's the Comey announcement?

(CNN) – It's been nearly three weeks since word broke that President Obama planned to nominate James Comey to replace retiring Robert Mueller as FBI director.

But as of Wednesday, the White House hadn't made any moves on announcing Mueller's successor. His term ends in September, and with Congress out of town for much of August, that doesn't leave much time for the Senate to consider the president's nominee.

Mueller bumped, bruised - but largely backed - for FBI extension

Washington (CNN) – It will take an act of Congress to keep Robert Mueller at the helm of the FBI, and all signs indicate that's precisely what lawmakers will do.

No sooner had President Barack Obama announced plans to extend Mueller's statutorily limited 10-year term to 12 years than Democrats and
Republicans alike began to smartly salute the decorated Marine and declare the move a grand idea.

Obama requests 2 more years for FBI chief

Washington (CNN) – President Barack Obama is seeking a two-year extension of the 10-year term of FBI Director Robert Mueller, the White House announced Thursday.

Mueller's current term expires September 4.
