Cruz, Paul, Rubio and Walker to attend Iowa gov.'s D.C. fundraiser

Washington (CNN) – A quartet of Republicans said to be eyeing 2016 presidential bids will get a chance next month to see how the competition is romancing the influential governor of Iowa.

Republican Terry Branstad is hosting a fundraiser on Sept. 24 at a Washington, D.C., GOP hot spot, the Capitol Hill Club, according to an invitation obtained by CNN.

(CNN) – While other potential 2016 Republican presidential candidates have dived into the feud between New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and Sen. Rand Paul, Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker is treading water.

When asked about his stance on the spat at a governors summit in Milwaukee on Friday, Walker did not take a side.

Washington (CNN) – Three prominent Republican governors thought to have designs on the White House will descend on the early primary state of South Carolina later this month to raise money for Gov. Nikki Haley, who is bracing for what could be a tough re-election fight next year.

Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker, Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal and Texas Gov. Rick Perry will appear as "special guests" at an Aug. 26 fundraiser for Haley in Greenville, according to a copy of an invitation to the event obtained by CNN.

Iowa poll: Who wins a Clinton-Christie 2016 showdown?

(CNN) – Hillary Clinton and Chris Christie are dead even in the key battleground state of Iowa in a hypothetical 2016 presidential showdown, according to a new poll.

A Quinnipiac University survey of Iowa voters also indicates that President Barack Obama's approval rating among Iowa voters has edged down since May. And according to the poll, which was released Monday morning, Hawkeye State voters are divided on the recent Supreme Court rulings on same-sex marriage.

Federal judge temporarily blocks new Wisconsin abortion law

(CNN) - A Wisconsin federal judge has granted a temporary restraining order preventing the state from enforcing a new and restrictive abortion law.

The law, signed by Gov. Scott Walker on Friday, bans doctors from performing abortions if they don't have admitting privileges to hospitals within 30 minutes of their practice.

Wisconsin governor signs tougher abortion bill

(CNN) – Wisconsin became the latest state Friday to legislate tighter abortion laws after Republican Gov. Scott Walker signed a controversial bill that requires women to undergo an ultrasound before having an abortion.

"This bill improves a woman's ability to make an informed choice that will protect her physical and mental health now and in the future," the governor's office said in a statement.

Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker supports path to citizenship

(CNN) – Republican Gov. Scott Walker said Tuesday he supported the immigration bill passed by the U.S. Senate last week, although he indicated it doesn't go far enough.

In an interview with the Wisconsin Daily Herald media editorial board, Walker acknowledged the dependency of Wisconsin farms on migrant workers, many of them undocumented. He argued against currently onerous challenges for workers to come to the United States legally.

Walker trip fuels 2016 speculation

(CNN) - Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker heads to Iowa Thursday, stoking speculation that he's considering a run for the White House in 2016. But the Republican governor is downplaying the visit to the state that votes first in the presidential caucus and primary process.

Walker will headline the Polk County, Iowa Republican Party fundraising event, at the invitation of Iowa's GOP governor, Terry Branstad. Polk County, home to the capital city of Des Moines, is the most populous county in the Hawkeye State.

Already groups supporting more gun restrictions have been active on the local level. GOP governors call for special prosecutor in IRS case

(CNN) - The two leaders of the Republican Governors Association called for the appointment of a special prosecutor Tuesday to investigate any legal wrongdoing within the Internal Revenue Service.

Gov. Bobby Jindal of Louisiana and Gov. Scott Walker of Wisconsin - who both are considered potential candidates for the 2016 GOP presidential nomination - wrote in a letter to President Barack Obama the recent revelation the IRS was applying extra scrutiny to conservative groups applying for tax exempt status amounted to a "witch hunt to prevent Americans from exercising their First Amendment rights."
