(CNN) - Gov. Chris Christie and Snooki don't share much in common, but there couldn't have been a more appropriate place for the two to meet: the Jersey Shore.
Their awkward introduction came Friday in Seaside Heights, where the two were on hand for the reopening of the boardwalk in time for the Memorial Day weekend tourist influx, about seven months after Superstorm Sandy battered the region.

(CNN) – Newt Gingrich admitted Wednesday he's never seen the popular "Jersey Shore" TV show but he'd think about stopping by the famed beach house sometime.
Sharing the stage with "Jersey Shore's" Nicole 'Snooki' Polizzi, the former Republican presidential contender took a breather from politics to chat with the star, appearing with him on NBC's "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno."

(CNN) – Sen. John McCain's nearly 2 million Twitter followers are accustomed to reading the Republican senator's 140-character missives on politics and current events, but it was a reply last June to the MTV star Snooki for which his feed can credit its many followers.
Politico reports that McCain recounted the story of his infamous tweet to the "Jersey Shore" cast member at the inaugural Al Jazeera U.S. Forum at the Newseum Monday night.

(CNN) – Jersey Shore cast member Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi may have bashed President Obama earlier this year over a new federal tax on tanning salons, but Obama made clear Thursday he knows little about the infamous reality star.
"I've got to admit, I don't know who Snooki is. I'm sorry," Obama said on ABC's The View when asked if the pop-culture sensation should consider a run for Mayor of Wasilla, Alaska - the post Sarah Palin once held.
Though Obama says he isn't familiar with Snooki, that hasn't stopped him from making light of the Jersey Shore cast member in the past. At this year's White House Correspondents Dinner, the president joked the new ten percent tax on tanning salons had a "Jersey Shore-Up" provision.
"The following individuals shall be excluded from the indoor tanning tax within this bill – Snooki, J-WOWW, the Situation, and House Minority Leader John Boehner," Obama joked.
