Washington (CNN) – As the White House begins a series of events over the next few weeks to highlight the benefits of the new health care law, the number two House Democrat said the President's signature domestic achievement doesn't need to be rebranded, but he regrets referring to the Affordable Care Act as "Obamacare."
"I wish I hadn't' called it Obamacare before because that has politicized it and has been used by Republicans as a pejorative term," Rep. Steny Hoyer, D-Maryland, told reporters on Tuesday.
Washington (CNN) - The White House isn't in damage-control mode solely over a bad health care website.
As the Obama administration is trying to calm concerns across the country from Americans being dropped from their current plans, Republicans on Capitol Hill are saying, "We told you so."
In March 2010, then-Minority Leader John Boehner, R-Ohio, came to the House floor as Democrats were poised to pass Obamacare and issued a warning.
"Look at this bill," Boehner said. "Ask yourself: Do you really believe that if you like the health plan that you have, that you can keep it? No, you can't."
Washington (CNN) - The number two House Democrat predicted Tuesday that after plummeting poll numbers following a two week government shutdown it's easy to see how Republicans could lose control of the House of Representatives in 2014.
Democratic Whip Steny Hoyer recounted a conversation to reporters on Capitol Hill that he had recently with Charlie Cook, a top political handicapper who publishes regular analysis of congressional races across the country in the Cook Political Report.
Washington (CNN) – The number two House Democrat believes the deadly shooting at the Washington Navy Yard will renew the debate over gun control, but admitted that outside groups opposed to any new restrictions make it unlikely that Congress will enact any new laws.
"If the past is prologue that prologue is not very helpful," House Democratic Whip Steny Hoyer, referencing failed attempts on Capitol Hill to pass new gun laws after previous mass shootings, told reporters on Capitol Hill on Tuesday.
Washington (CNN) – Most House Democrats are expected to oppose two House Republican bills on Wednesday that would delay key provisions of Obamacare, the number two House Democrat told reporters Tuesday.
"I think most Democrats will stick together," House Democratic Whip Steny Hoyer said when asked about the upcoming votes. He called the Republican bill to delay the employer mandate to provide health care insurance "redundant" because it "doesn't do anything beyond what the president has already done."
Washington (CNN) – The number two House Democrat, Steny Hoyer, is "not absolutely positive" that the automatic spending cuts that are scheduled to go into effect will actually happen, but as his office prepares for their potential impact, he doesn't think cutting his own pay is the way to absorb the budget cuts.
"If I take a pay cut frankly that won't help our national defense that won't help our domestic investments. It won't help the economy," Hoyer said at his weekly session with reporters on Capitol Hill.
Washington (CNN) - Less than two weeks after one of the nation's deadliest school shootings, the No.2 Democrat in the U.S. House, Steny Hoyer, compared Republican tactics for dealing with the nation's debt limit to someone threatening to shoot a child hostage.
"It's somewhat like taking your child hostage and saying to somebody else, 'I'm going to shoot my child if you don't do what I want done.' You don't want to shoot your child. There's no Republican leader that wants to default on our debt, that I've talked to," Hoyer said at a Capitol Hill press conference.
Washington (CNN) - The number two House Democrat predicted Wednesday that GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney's comments at a closed door fundraiser would prove "helpful" to congressional Democrats and President Obama when voters go to the polls in November.
"It's got to help us in every swing district in America," House Democratic Whip Steny Hoyer told reporters on Capitol Hill. Independent voters are "are looking to find a party that they believe cares about them and their interests and their future."

"I think our chances are reasonably good that we can take back the House, and if the economy continues to perform as it's been performing, I think we will take back the House," House Democratic Whip Steny Hoyer, D-Maryland, told reporters in his Capitol Hill office.
Washington (CNN) - The number two House Democrat broke Monday with some of his fellow Democratic colleagues, and said he does not believe releasing oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR) is appropriate now and it wouldn't help lower gas prices.
Last week three House Democrats - Rep. Peter Welch, D-Vermont, Rep. Ed Markey, D- Mass, and Rep. Rosa DeLauro, D-Conn– wrote a letter to President Barack Obama urging him to release oil from the U.S. stockpile to reduce prices at the pump.
