GOP heavyweights lining up behind Martinez

Washington (CNN) - Congressional leaders, potential presidential candidates and party elders will come together next week in the nation's capital to help fill New Mexico Gov. Susana Martinez's political war chest, CNN has learned.

From House Speaker John Boehner and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell to Sen. Rand Paul and Sen. Marco Rubio, at least 27 people are listed as "Honored Guests" on a fundraising invitation that also features Republican Governors Association Chair Bobby Jindal, Republican National Committee Chair Reince Priebus and former Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, among many others. The event is expected to raise "six figures," said an adviser to the New Mexico governor, who spoke about it on the condition of anonymity. Contributions range from $500 to $5,200 per person.

New GOP effort aims to recruit minorities for state office

Washington (CNN) - The trouncing Republicans received in November's election was fueled partly by Democrats' success among minorities, who formed a record portion of total turnout and overwhelmingly cast ballots for President Barack Obama.

As the national GOP examines what went wrong, a new effort will focus on electing women and minorities to state office, where organizers say a new generation of Republican leaders can help change the perception that their party is no longer reflective of America's changing population.

(CNN) – Former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, New Mexico Gov. Susana Martinez and South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley - three women rumored to be under consideration as Mitt Romney's running mate - will have high profile speaking roles at the Republican National Convention, organizers will announce Monday.

The naming of the three women most likely means that Romney's campaign is no longer vetting their backgrounds, if they ever did.
