Tea Party Express: Nebraska's Jon Bruning to get first 2012 Senate endorsement

Washington (CNN) - As the Tea Party Express gears up to reveal what it's calling a "surprise" endorsement Wednesday, CNN has learned who will receive the group's first Senate endorsement for the 2012 cycle.

The Express will endorse Nebraska's Republican Attorney General Jon Bruning in the race to unseat Sen. Ben Nelson - the state's most powerful Democrat.

Tea Party Express: Nebraska will be focus of first 'surprise' endorsement

Washington (CNN) – Two days before The Tea Party Express reveals what it's called a major "surprise endorsement" for the 2012 races, the group has provided details to CNN.

On Monday, Tea Party Express National Spokesman Levi Russell said that its Senate endorsement – their first for the upcoming political cycle - will focus on Nebraska. The group will officially reveal the recipient of its endorsement at a press conference at the National Press Club in Washington on Wednesday.

Tea Party Express looks ahead to 2012 at Tax Day rally

(CNN)-Hundreds of local Tea Party groups will join the Tea Party Express as co-sponsors in the first-ever Tea Party Presidential Debate, held in partnership with CNN, according to Amy Kremer, Chairman of the Tea Party Express.

Kremer announced Friday that local Tea Party groups from every state will support the group's first presidential candidate debate while speaking at the Tax Day Tea Party Rally in Tampa, Florida.

Budget deal doesn't thrill some in the Tea Party movement

Washington (CNN) – Some leading national Tea Party organizations are anything but happy with Friday night's deal on the budget that prevented a federal government shutdown.

A spokesman for the Tea Party Express tells CNN the group isn't "very impressed" with the budget deal and says the agreement proves the Tea Party has a lot more work to do to make deeper cuts in the federal budget.

Tea Party Express names Sen. Ben Nelson as a 'top target'

Washington (CNN) – The Tea Party Express is hyping, what it calls, "exclusive news": that the group has placed another name on its list of political targets.

On Wednesday, Sal Russo - chief strategist of the Tea Party Express - distributed an email to supporters.

It states that the group is "pleased to tip you...to the exclusive news that we will be making another Democrat, Ben Nelson of Nebraska, one of our top targets for defeat in these upcoming 2012 elections."

'First Tea Party town hall' sees political unity, few tough questions for lawmakers

Washington (CNN) - Six members of Congress faced conservative activists in what organizers called the "first Tea Party town hall" on Tuesday.

Attendees included Senators Rand Paul of Kentucky, Mike Lee and Orrin Hatch, both of Utah, as well as Representatives Michele Bachmann of Minnesota, Allen West of Florida and Steve King of Iowa.

Hatch 'invited himself' to Tea Party town hall

Washington (CNN) - Sen. Orrin Hatch "invited himself" to the Tea Party town hall that will be held in Washington on Tuesday, according to the chairman of the Tea Party Express.

On Monday, the Utah Republican confirmed, in a tweet, that he would join the event that's being billed as the first of its kind.

Tea Party Express not planning to target Hatch

Washington (CNN) – Republican Sen. Orrin Hatch of Utah, who may face a primary challenge next year, apparently now has one less thing to worry about.

The Tea Party Express, a national Tea Party organization that last year helped oust Bob Bennett, Utah's other GOP senator, as he unsuccessfully tried to win his party's re-nomination, says they have no plans as of now to target Hatch next as he gears up for re-election in 2012.
