Washington (CNN) – Minnesota Republican Rep. Michele Bachmann, chair of the Tea Party Caucus in Congress, delivered a Tea Party-style, red-meat conservative rebuttal sharply criticizing President Barack Obama's State of the Union Tuesday.
Bachmann's remarks followed the official Republican response to the president by Wisconsin Rep. Paul Ryan, but the Minnesota Republican told CNN after the address that the Tea Party Express invited her to give a response the State of the Union last month, and denied that her response was meant to compete with Ryan's.
Washington (CNN) - Echoing comments from Rep. Michele Bachmann, the head of the Tea Party Express insists that the Minnesota Republican's response to the State of the Union is not meant to compete with the official Republican response from Rep. Paul Ryan of Wisconsin.
But Express Chairman Amy Kremer also emphatically told CNN on Tuesday that "the peoples' voices" need to be heard - and that the Tea Party "is not a wing of the Republican Party!"
Washington (CNN) - A prominent Tea Party group intends to send a message to those lawmakers it helped elect: we intend to hold your feet to the fire – in a "supportive way."
That will be the intended message from the Tea Party Express as it holds an upcoming town-hall-style meeting in Washington. Details of the event are still being worked out. There is no firm date yet, though it could be held in the middle of January, a spokesman for the Express told CNN on Monday. One item the group is clear on is the event's goal.
Washington (CNN) – CNN is teaming up with the Tea Party Express for a first-of-its-kind presidential primary debate, both organizations announced Friday. The Tea Party debate, featuring 2012 Republican presidential candidates, is scheduled for Labor Day week 2011. It will take place in Tampa, Florida – the site of the 2012 Republican National Convention.
Since the spring of 2009, the Tea Party movement has been increasingly vocal in advocating for less government spending, lower taxes and shrinking the deficit. The Tea Party debate will place specific emphasis on those issues.
Washington (CNN) - The head of one of the best known national Tea Party groups predicts that a potential White House bid by Mitt Romney could face pushback from Tea Party activists because of the health care plan implemented in Massachusetts during Romney's term as the state's governor.
Tea Party Express chairwoman Amy Kremer, asked during an interview by David Brody on CBN's "The Brody File" if the Massachusetts health care situation will fly with Tea Party activists, responded by saying "Absolutely not. You can't get away from that."
Las Vegas, Nevada (CNN) - A Tea Party group that's been targeting Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid for over a year is now going after him once again.
Tea Party Express, which has spent hundreds of thousands of dollars in support of Sharron Angle, Reid's Republican challenger, and which has targeted the Senate's top Democrat in three of their four well publicized cross-country bus tours, now says they'll hold a watch party in the same Las Vegas casino where Reid is setting up shop for his election night headquarters.
(CNN) - Tom Tancredo's third party bid for Colorado governor is getting a big endorsement from a leading member of the Tea Party movement.
The chairman of the Tea Party Express, one of the most well-known and politically active national Tea Party organizations, on Monday endorsed Tancredo.
"Tom Tancredo has always been there for the constitutional conservative principles that drive the tea party movement, and I am honored to support him," said Amy Kremer, in a statement.
(CNN) - The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People released a new study Wednesday that claims to tie members of the Tea Party to white supremacist groups, anti-immigration organizations, anti-semitic groups and independent militias.
The study, conducted by the Institute for Research and Education on Human Rights analyzed the membership of six Tea Party organizations in the country.
