Ted Cruz: Religious liberty 'never been more in peril'

(CNN) – Sen. Ted Cruz struck a familiar refrain in a speech Wednesday, calling on Americans to defend religious liberty against the overreach of the federal government.

The freshman Republican senator from Texas cited two cases being heard by the U.S. Supreme Court fighting requirements in President Barack Obama's health care law.

(CNN) – Sen. Ted Cruz appeared to distance himself again from fellow GOP Sen. Rand Paul, this time over social values.

The first-term Republican senator from Texas, who was in Iowa Tuesday, was asked by the Des Moines Register about Paul's recent comments that Republicans should "agree to disagree" about social issues.

Cruz blazing '16 path from Iowa to N.H.

Washington (CNN) - Sen. Ted Cruz will headline a second fundraiser in New Hampshire when he visits the final week of April, as the Texas Republican continues to flirt with a bid for the 2016 GOP presidential nomination.

Cruz will be the featured guest at a $500-a-plate fundraiser for Citizens for a Strong New Hampshire, a conservative organization that, among other things, is working to try and defeat Democratic Sen. Jeanne Shaheen in November.

According to a new CNN/ORC International survey, 16% of Republicans and independents who lean toward the GOP say they would be likely to support the senator from Kentucky for the 2016 nomination.

Rand Paul takes veiled swipe at Ted Cruz over foreign policy

(CNN) - Recent tension between Republican Sens. Rand Paul and Ted Cruz flared on Monday after Paul doubled-down in his criticism of Cruz's rhetoric.

"I will remind anyone who thinks we will win elections by trashing previous Republican nominees or holding oneself out as some paragon in the mold of (Ronald) Reagan, that splintering the party is not the route to victory," the Kentucky Republican wrote in an opinion piece for Breitbart.com.

(CNN) – They were both popular speakers who blasted government overreach at the Conservative Political Action Conference, but Sen. Rand Paul and Sen. Ted Cruz found themselves at odds this weekend over foreign policy and political strategy.

Both considered potential 2016 presidential contenders with strong tea party support, the two normally line up on a host of issues.
