(CNN) - Democratic Senate candidate Tim Kaine of Virginia, who once headed the Democratic National Committee, disagreed with President Barack Obama on the president's call to extend the Bush-era tax cuts for households making under $250,000 per year.

Allen to pass on GOP convention

(CNN) – George Allen, who's running in a heated Senate race in Virginia, will not be attending the Republican National Convention in August, his campaign confirmed Tuesday.

"Since we are locked in a close race and can't be in two places at once, the focus will continue to be listening and meeting with Virginia families, veterans, and small business leaders on the campaign trail," campaign spokeswoman Emily Davis said.

Virginia Senate race in a dead heat

(CNN) – A poll released Tuesday showed the race for Virginia's hotly contested U.S. Senate seat in a dead heat, six months before voters in the Commonwealth head to the polls.

The Washington Post survey showed former Democratic Virginia Gov. Tim Kaine tied with the state's past Republican governor and senator, George Allen. Both had backing from 46% of registered voters. Among independents, the race was similarly deadlocked: Kaine had support from 46% of independents, while Allen was at 45%.

Kaine touts new numbers in expensive Senate race

Washington (CNN) - Some new fundraising figures bolster the notion that this year's battle in Virginia for an open Senate seat could be one of the most expensive Senate races this cycle.

Former Virginia Gov. Tim Kaine's Senate campaign announced Tuesday that they raised more than $2.2 million in the past three months, and that they have $4.4 million cash on hand. The first quarter haul is a jump from the $1.65 million the former chairman of the Democratic National Committee raised in the fourth quarter of last year.
