Kaine touts new numbers in expensive Senate race

Washington (CNN) - Some new fundraising figures bolster the notion that this year's battle in Virginia for an open Senate seat could be one of the most expensive Senate races this cycle.

Former Virginia Gov. Tim Kaine's Senate campaign announced Tuesday that they raised more than $2.2 million in the past three months, and that they have $4.4 million cash on hand. The first quarter haul is a jump from the $1.65 million the former chairman of the Democratic National Committee raised in the fourth quarter of last year.

Kaine calls for full disclosure in Virginia Senate race

(CNN) - Following the creation of a new super PAC supporting Republican George Allen's Senate bid in Virginia, Democratic opponent Tim Kaine sent a letter to Allen Tuesday urging that anyone or any group spending money on the race do so openly.

"Virginia voters are entitled to know who is funding this campaign," the letter stated. "Contributions directly to either of us are already disclosed. But, the third parties filling the airways get to hide behind a cloak of secrecy."
