Super PAC rallies behind Kaine in Virginia

(CNN) – As the U.S. Senate race in Virginia heats up, a new super PAC supportive of Democrat Tim Kaine went public this week, just days after the launch of a super PAC dedicated to help Republican George Allen.

The pro-Kaine group, A New Virginia PAC, aims to raise $2-$3 million to aid the former Democratic National Committee chairman and former Virginia governor.

Kaine calls for full disclosure in Virginia Senate race

(CNN) - Following the creation of a new super PAC supporting Republican George Allen's Senate bid in Virginia, Democratic opponent Tim Kaine sent a letter to Allen Tuesday urging that anyone or any group spending money on the race do so openly.

"Virginia voters are entitled to know who is funding this campaign," the letter stated. "Contributions directly to either of us are already disclosed. But, the third parties filling the airways get to hide behind a cloak of secrecy."

Kaine brings in $1.65 million in Virginia Senate race

(CNN) – Democratic frontrunner Tim Kaine took in $1.65 million in the fourth quarter for his Virginia Senate bid, his office announced Tuesday.

The former governor, now in a heated race against Republican frontrunner George Allen, finished the year with $5.2 million raised and $3.3 million in the bank.

Allen raises nearly $1.1 million for Virginia Senate bid

(CNN) - Republican Virginia Senate candidate George Allen brought in nearly $1.1 million in fourth quarter fundraising, his campaign announced Tuesday.

The former governor finished the year with $4.5 million in fundraising and more than $2 million cash on hand. Well ahead of the state's party primaries in June, Allen is locked in a heated battle against the Democratic front-runner Tim Kaine, who's also a former governor.

Allen gets big endorsement in Virginia Senate battle

Washington (CNN) - Virginia's top Republican is backing former Sen. George Allen's bid to reclaim his old job in Congress.

Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell Friday endorsed Allen's campaign for the Senate, saying in a web video and in an email release that "George Allen will need all of our help. He has my support and I'm hoping he can count on yours as well."

Conservative ads attack Dems, one Senate seat at a time

(CNN) - Crossroads GPS isn't wasting time in its ad offensive against Democrats. The conservative advocacy group released ads in five states one day after announcing it would spend $2.6 million on a campaign bashing the incumbent president.

The new round of ads will run for two weeks in Massachusetts, Missouri, Montana, Virginia, and Nebraska - sites of critical Senate contests in 2012.

Democrat first to reveal numbers in Virginia Senate battle

Washington (CNN) – Tim Kaine is the first to show his money in what could be one of the most expensive Senate battles of 2012.

The former Virginia governor and former Democratic National Committee Chairman's campaign will announce Tuesday that it has raised $2.25 million since forming on April 5, with more than 4,600 supporters making contributions.

Kaine: Weiner should resign

Washington (CNN) – Tim Kaine, the former chairman of the Democratic National Committee, called on New York Rep. Anthony Weiner to resign after he admitted to sending racy pictures of himself to women over the internet.

Kaine is the first prominent Democrat to publicly demand Weiner's resignation.

Wasserman Schultz to chair Democratic National Committee

Washington (CNN) – Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz of Florida will be named chair of the Democratic National Committee to succeed Tim Kaine, who is running for the U.S. Senate, according to an e-mail sent Tuesday to Democratic supporters.

Two women have previously chaired the DNC - Jean Westwood in 1972 and Debra DeLee in 1994-95.

Kaine enters Senate race in Virginia

Washington (CNN) - Democratic National Committee Chairman and former Virginia Gov. Tim Kaine ended weeks of speculation Tuesday by announcing that he will seek his state's open Senate seat, which is being vacated by Sen. Jim Webb.

Webb, a Democrat, announced his retirement in February.

Kaine made the announcement in a video posted on his new campaign website, focusing on his record as governor that "made government more efficient" through budget cuts and investments in education and transportation.
