Wisconsin recall's a 'test run,' DNC chair says

Washington (CNN) – Democratic National Committee Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz on Sunday classified Democratic efforts in the Wisconsin recall election as a “test run” for the presidential race.

“It’s given the Obama for America operation an opportunity to do the dry run we need of our massive, significant dynamic grassroots presidential campaign,” the Florida representative said of the battleground state on CNN’s “State of the Union.”

Candidates frame labor fight in Wisconsin debate

(CNN) – Democrat Tom Barrett, who is trailing embattled Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker in polls ahead of Wisconsin's June 5 recall election, sought to portray his challenger as a divisive "rock star" to the tea party in a debate Friday, claiming the incumbent Republican had torn apart the state in pursuit of national political ambitions.

Barrett, the Milwaukee mayor, is facing Walker in a recall election after Walker made the controversial decision in 2011 to cut most collective bargaining rights for state employees. Two polls released Thursday put Walker ahead of his Democratic challenger by single digits.

RGA hits Barrett in seventh Wisconsin ad

(CNN) – The Republican Governors Association, which has been aggressively backing Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker in his upcoming recall election, said Wednesday they were launching their seventh television ad in the state, this time comparing the records of Walker and his Democratic rival, Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett.

"Since Scott Walker became governor, Wisconsin has gained over 30,000 jobs. Fact," the ad asserts. "With Tom Barrett as mayor, Milwaukee unemployment has gone up 28%. Fact. Scott Walker balanced the budget without raising taxes. Fact. Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett has raised taxes in seven of his eight years in office. Fact. No opinions. Just the facts."

RGA ad weighs in again on Wisconsin race

(CNN) – The Republican Governor's Association released a new ad Wednesday arguing Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett would move Wisconsin backwards if elected governor in June's recall election.

Barrett, who won the Democratic nomination for the seat last week, "raised taxes every year but one," the RGA ad said. Unemployment in his city went up 28%, the ad said.

Fresh ads in Wisconsin recall, fresh off Tuesday election

(CNN) – Groups on both sides of the political aisle launched new ads in Wisconsin Wednesday morning, after a Democratic challenger was picked to face incumbent Republican Gov. Scott Walker in the recall election.

The Republican Governors Association aimed their fire at Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett, who won the Democratic nomination on Tuesday. The 30-second spot criticized Barrett's record as mayor, charging him with increasing taxes, government spending and unemployment, a consistent line of attack from Republican groups in the state.

Walker: 'I was the original Tea Party in Wisconsin'

(CNN) – Unlike Republican Senate nominee Ron Johnson, the millionaire businessman looking to unseat Sen. Russell Feingold, Wisconsin gubernatorial hopeful Scott Walker doesn't have the luxury of running as an outsider at a time when veteran politicians are on the firing line.

Walker has been in politics for 17 years, first elected as a state representative in 1993 and then to the post of Milwaukee County Executive in 2002, a position he still holds. But Walker claims the same people who are "jazzed up" about Johnson are jazzed up about him.
