Obama spends Sunday morning at church

Washington (CNN) – President Barack Obama spent Sunday morning attending a church service with his daughters, with plans for a briefing on Hurricane Sandy and travel to Florida later in the day.

Obama, his daughters - Sasha and Malia - and their godmother, Kaye Wilson, a family friend, walked to St. John's Church, the Episcopal house of worship across from the White House.

Endorsements for Romney in Detroit, NY and Washington

(CNN) – Republican nominee Mitt Romney has received an endorsement from a newspaper in the heart of the auto bailout.

The Detroit News, a conservative-leaning paper, announced their endorsement of Romney in an editorial Thursday. The newspaper recommended Republican Sen. John McCain in 2008.

Early voting opens in seven states, D.C.

(CNN) – Hours ahead of the presidential debate on Monday, millions of voters across the country will have the chance to cast their ballots when early voting opens in Arkansas, Colorado, Texas, Wisconsin, Alaska and the District of Columbia.

Nevada began early voting on Saturday, a day after Washington state, bringing the early voting total to 29 states and the District of Columbia.

Weapons, assault charges for suspect in conservative council shooting

Washington (CNN) - The suspect in the shooting at the Family Research Council walked into the headquarters of the conservative group armed with a 9 mm pistol and shot a security guard after telling him, "I don't like your politics," authorities said in a criminal complaint filed Thursday.

The complaint accuses Floyd Lee Corkins II, 28, of a federal firearms violation and assault with intent to kill.

Where's the drama in Washington state gubernatorial primary?

(CNN) - In the battle for the state of Washington's governorship, Tuesday's primary seems to be just the warm-up act.

Polls suggest that both Republican Attorney General Rob McKenna and Democrat Jay Inslee, a former eight-term congressman, are expected to breeze by seven other candidates and face off in November in the fight to succeed two-term Democratic Gov. Christine Gregoire, who decided against running for re-election.

At VFW, Obama talks about promises kept

(CNN) – President Barack Obama on Monday emphasized the fulfillment of his promise to end the war in Iraq and pointed to his administration's work for veterans over the last three and a half years.

"Four years ago I made you a promise. I pledged to take the fight to our enemies and renew our leadership in the world. As president, that's what I've done," he said while speaking in Reno, Nevada at the 113th convention of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Washington state to become first to offer voter registration on Facebook

(CNN) – Washington will become the first state to offer voter registration via Facebook with a new application to be launched as soon as next week, according to a state election official.

Once online, the app will be accessible on the secretary of state's Facebook page, said Shane Hamlin, co-director of elections for the state.
