Washington state to become first to offer voter registration on Facebook

(CNN) – Washington will become the first state to offer voter registration via Facebook with a new application to be launched as soon as next week, according to a state election official.

Once online, the app will be accessible on the secretary of state's Facebook page, said Shane Hamlin, co-director of elections for the state.

Romney to address Faith and Freedom Coalition from the road

Washington (CNN) – Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney will address an annual Faith & Freedom Conference via video conference instead of in person Saturday, the group confirmed to CNN.

Romney was originally scheduled to attend the Faith & Freedom Conference & Strategy Briefing in Washington, DC, but the event conflicts with his multi-state bus tour slated to begin on Friday in New Hampshire.

Eisenhower Memorial Commission moves forward despite calls for delay

(CNN) - The Dwight D. Eisenhower Memorial Commission plans to vote on a controversial design for the memorial honoring the 34th U.S. president despite public objections from the Eisenhower family and members of Congress.

Commissioners are expected to vote "yes" or "no" Friday on the latest design revisions by architect Frank Gehry in an effort bring the project to the National Capital Planning Commission, according to an internal e-mail obtained by CNN.

Eisenhower family still opposed to memorial design

Washington (CNN) - The family of the late President Dwight Eisenhower continued to express disapproval Wednesday for the design of a memorial commissioned to honor the 34th U.S. president in Washington

In a posted letter, Susan Eisenhower, President Eisenhower's granddaughter, expressed the family's gratitude for recent changes by architect Frank Gehry, but opposed the memorial's expansive modern construction and asked that more time be given to the process.

Rep. Inslee to resign House seat

(CNN) – Democratic Rep. Jay Inslee of Washington will resign his House seat in order to focus on his 2012 run for governor of the state, a Democratic official confirmed to CNN on Saturday.

Inslee, now in his eighth term, represents Washington's 1st Congressional District, which covers the northwest part of Seattle and its surrounding suburbs.

CNN projects Romney will win Washington state caucuses

(CNN) – Mitt Romney will win Saturday's Republican caucuses in Washington state, CNN projects, giving the former Massachusetts governor a shot in the arm heading into Super Tuesday.

With more than 60% of the vote in, Romney had 37% while Texas Rep. Ron Paul and former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum were tied for second with 24%. They were trailed by former House Speaker Newt Gingrich at 11%.

Paul calls Limbaugh comments 'crude'

(CNN) – Ron Paul became the latest presidential hopeful to weigh in on controversial and incendiary language used by radio commentator Rush Limbaugh to describe a college student, telling reporters Friday the remarks were in poor taste.

"It sounded a little crude the way it came across to me," Paul said. "I don't know why it has to be such a political football like this, so you have to ask him about his crudeness."

Washington GOP chair predicts Romney, Paul win

(CNN) – Ahead of his state's GOP caucuses on Saturday, the Washington Republican Party chair on Friday predicted a win for either Mitt Romney or Ron Paul.

The turnout required for a win can be bolstered by a well-organized ground campaign, and Kirby Wilbur told CNN that Rick Santorum and Newt Gingrich "don't have the infrastructure, the ground game to follow up on turning the vote out."

Rep. Dicks will not seek re-election

(CNN) – Longtime Democratic Rep. Norm Dicks of Washington announced Friday he plans to retire after completing his current term in the House.

"The privilege of serving in the House of Representatives, with the endorsement of the voters every two years, is indeed an honor unlike no other profession in our country," Dicks said in a statement.
