GOP Rallies at Capitol to 'Fire Reid'

Washington (CNN) – Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus Tuesday joined half dozen House Republican lawmakers at a rally outside the Senate steps to call on the American people to "fire" Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) by winning control of the Senate in 2014.

Speaking to a crowd of around 100 GOP staffers and supporters (and a handful of curious tourists), Priebus said, "For too long now, Sen. Reid has run the Senate with an iron fist, blocking legislation that would help working families."

Frustrated Tennessee governor writes Obama about unannounced border kids

(CNN) – Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam expressed frustration with the Obama administration’s decision to place 760 unaccompanied minors in his state without notification.

In a letter addressed to President Barack Obama dated July 25, Haslam said it was “unacceptable” that the state discovered the presence of the unaccompanied minors through an online posting by the Department of Health and Human Services.

A spokesman for Haslam said Tuesday the governor has not been notified by the administration. HHS said it would review the letter and respond to the governor as soon as possible.

That's about the same time frame Paul has said he'll make a decision about a White House bid.

Paul told Louisville's Courier-Journal, which first reported the story, that the timing was "just coincidence, probably just coincidence."

White House: Major costs to delaying climate change policy

Washington (CNN) – If lawmakers delay taking action now on climate change it could cost taxpayers exponentially more in the future to deal with the effects of a warming planet, the White House is warning Tuesday.

Updated 5:21 p.m. ET, 7/31/2014

(CNN) - Gov. Andrew Cuomo defended the work of a commission designed to quell corruption in New York state politics against a report that his office interfered with the panel's investigation.

"By definition the commission took advice and opinion from many, many people," Cuomo said Monday in response to questions about a top aide's communication with the Moreland Commission, a group appointed last year by the Democratic governor.
