Key questions about Rick Perry's border plan

(CNN) – Texas Gov. Rick Perry's decision to send up to 1,000 National Guard troops to the southern border is the latest move in a controversy over the influx of migrant youths from Central America, many unaccompanied, streaming into the United States.

It represents concrete action over concerns raised by Perry and other Republicans that border security be given more resources generally and specifically in this case to deal with what most agree is a humanitarian crisis.

Government Agency tweets about Kardashians, baffles lawmakers

(CNN) – Come for the Kardashians, stay for EPA water regulations.

In what seems to be a complete social media flub, the official Environmental Protection Agency's Office of Water twitter handle tweeted out an automated message promoting a new Kardashian Hollywood game.

"I'm now a C-List celebrity in Kim Kardashian: Hollywood," @EPAWater tweeted Monday night. "Come join me and become famous too by playing on iPhone! http://t.co/SrloiiwUFZ"

Republican candidate: Maybe Christie should step down from RGA

(CNN) – Blame it on the bridge.

Rob Astorino, the Republican gubernatorial candidate in New York, suggested Tuesday that Gov. Chris Christie's decision not to support Astorino in his longshot race against incumbent Gov. Andrew Cuomo may have something to do with the George Washington Bridge scandal.

"I just think she's a 20th century candidate," the first-term senator from Florida and potential 2016 GOP presidential candidate told NPR.

Outsider beats insider in GOP primary runoff in key Senate race

(CNN) - Businessman David Perdue won Tuesday's Republican Senate primary runoff in Georgia, narrowly edging out Rep. Jack Kingston.

Kingston told supporters Tuesday night that he called Perdue to concede and to congratulate his opponent on "a victory well fought."

Issa: Back-up records of Lerner’s emails may exist

(CNN) – Copies of former IRS official Lois Lerner’s emails that were deemed unrecoverable might actually be retrievable, an IRS lawyer appeared to indicate in a recent testimony, according to House Republicans.

Republican Rep. Darrell Issa, who chairs the House Oversight Committee, selectively released information Monday about a closed session the committee held with IRS Deputy Associate Chief Counsel Thomas Kane last week.

CNN Poll: Majority of Americans side with Israel in Gaza fighting

Washington (CNN) - A majority of Americans say Israel's military actions in Gaza are justified, with only four in 10 saying that Israel has used too much force, according to a new national poll.

But a CNN/ORC International survey conducted Friday through Sunday also indicates that favorable opinions of Israel have edged down since earlier this year.
