Palin embraces SNL sketch, dishes out her own humor

(CNN) - There are so many scandals in Washington, Sarah Palin said, they could be lumped under the name of the botched gun-running sting that landed Attorney General Eric Holder in hot water long before the Benghazi, IRS or NSA stories came to light.

"These scandals are coming at us so Fast and Furious," she quipped at an annual gathering of conservatives on Saturday.

There's an alphabet soup of government overreach, Cain says

Washington (CNN) - The federal government is an out-of-control train racing down the tracks toward socialism and communism, Herman Cain said Saturday.

"We've got the IRS abuse. FEC intimidation. EPA discrimination. DOJ intimidation. NSA corruption. And it goes on and on and on in terms of the abuse and the corruption in the government that wants to control all of our lives," he said at the annual Faith and Freedom Coalition conference.

Priebus: Romney was vulnerable like a "duck on the pond"

Washington (CNN) - The top Republican Party official on Saturday urged conservatives to unite behind his plan to revitalize the party and deliver electoral success in the upcoming midterm and presidential elections.

Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus said the party must avoid the situation of 2012 GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney, where he was left sitting as a "duck on the pond."

Obama reflects on absent father in weekly address

(CNN) – Commemorating Father's Day weekend, President Barack Obama said he wished his own father had been more involved in his life, and he encouraged other dads to lead by example.

"Today we're blessed to live in a world where technology allows us to connect instantly with just about anyone on the planet," he said in his weekly address. "But no matter how advanced we get, there will never be a substitute for the love and support and, most importantly, the presence of a parent in a child's life."

GOP: Education system 'congested' with mandates

(CNN) - A Senate committee voted this week to move forward with a Democratic-backed education plan, but Republicans argue the proposal forces the country's school systems to further rely on the federal government.

"Over the last decade, the United States Department of Education has become so congested with federal mandates that it has actually become, in effect, a national school board," Sen. Lamar Alexander, R-Tennessee, said Saturday in the GOP weekly address.

The Romney video that never was–starring Donald Trump

Updated 9:15 p.m., Friday, 6/14

(CNN) – Real-estate mogul Donald Trump said Friday night that Mitt Romney's team asked him to appear in a "commercial" for the campaign last year–but it never saw the light of day.

The video, he said, was supposed to run during the Republican National Convention and featured Trump sitting in his office with an actor who looked like President Obama. After telling the faux president "what a lousy job" he's done, Trump said, he delivered his famous line to the actor: "You're fired!"
