(CNN) - Newt Gingrich leads the pack of GOP presidential candidates in a fourth straight poll of likely Iowa Republican caucus goers.
Thirty-one percent of people questioned in a CBS News/New York Times survey say that the former House speaker is their choice for their party's nominee, with 17 percent supporting former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney and 16% backing Rep. Ron Paul of Texas. The poll's Tuesday afternoon release comes four weeks before the Jan. 3 Iowa caucuses, which kick off the Republican presidential primary and caucus calendar.

The Labor Department on Friday announced the nation's unemployment rate fell to 8.6% last month, the lowest level since March of 2009, with employers adding 120,000 jobs, marking a pick up in hiring from October. Economists surveyed by CNNMoney had expected an additional 110,000 jobs in the month and the unemployment rate to remain unchanged.

An American Research Group poll released Thursday indicates that 50% of likely Republican primary voters in Florida say that the former House speaker is their choice for their party's presidential nominee, with 19% supporting former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney. Businessman and former Godfather's Pizza CEO Herman Cain is at 10%, with all other candidates in single digits and one in ten surveyed undecided.
(CNN) - In another signal that he is becoming more aggressive in Iowa, Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney is going up with his first television commercial in the first-in-the-nation caucus state.
In the 30-second spot, the former Massachusetts governor touts his business world experience, saying "I spent my life in the private sector. I've competed with companies around the world. I've learned something about how it is that economies grow."
(CNN) - Their presidential primary contest is a long way off, but as of right now a new poll indicates California Republicans are split between front-runners Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich.
California, along with Montana, New Jersey, New Mexico and South Dakota, hold their contests on June 5. Only Ohio and Utah vote after the 5th. The battle for the GOP nomination could be long over by June, but if it does last, California, thanks to its size, could put the eventual nominee over the top.

(CNN) - One month after sparking a controversy over his stance against abortion rights, Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain is signing a leading social conservative group's anti-abortion pledge.
Tuesday the businessman and former Godfather's Pizza CEO and radio talk show host put his name to the Susan B. Anthony List's "Pro-Life Presidential Leadership Pledge."
