Just days before Iowa caucuses, GOP presidential field is still unsettled

Des Moines (CNN) - Forget all of the complaints about the Iowa caucuses. It may be good for everyone else that the Hawkeye State is going first.

With a week and counting until the caucuses on January 3, one of the state's top Republican leaders is amazed by Iowa's most unsettled field of candidates so close to the finish line.

Gingrich under fire

Iowa City, Iowa (CNN) – Newt Gingrich is getting a nasty taste of what’s to come.

As the former House speaker stood in a classroom at the University of Iowa and began to detail his vision for a federal brain-science project dedicated to curing Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s diseases, Occupy Iowa City protesters started shouting.

The clock is ticking on eeny, meeny, miny, Mitt

Washington (CNN) - Republicans are running out of time to play eeny, meeny, miny, Mitt. With less than four weeks until the Iowa caucuses, GOP voters face a fundamental choice: Go with the candidate who appeals to their heads - or the one who appeals to their hearts.

The smart money has always been on Romney. For months, he waited safely outside of the blast areas that surrounded the implosions of Michele Bachmann, Rick Perry and Herman Cain.

Mitt Romney: The most fortunate candidate in the race?

Tampa, Florida (CNN) - You've heard of the Dos Equis beer pitch-man, "The Most Interesting Man in the World." Perhaps it's time to dub Mitt Romney "The Most Fortunate Candidate in the Race."

The former Massachusetts governor has led what has been a relatively charmed campaign. While Romney has spent the last few weeks polishing his attack lines for the president, several of his rivals have had near implosions. Witness Herman Cain and Rick Perry.

What's with Newt Gingrich and Agenda 21?

(CNN) - If you weren't listening closely to Newt Gingrich at the last GOP debate, you might have missed it.

"I would adopt a very strong policy towards the United Nations of dramatically taking on its absurdities," the former House Speaker said. "I would explicitly repudiate what Obama has done on Agenda 21 as the kind of interference from the United Nations," he then added.

Did you catch that? Agenda 21. What exactly is Agenda 21?

Newt Gingrich back from the brink

Sheffield, Iowa (CNN) - Newt Gingrich will tell you his sudden surge in the polls surprises even him. Well, sort of. He thought it was going to come six weeks from now. Just in time for the Iowa caucuses.
