FULL STORYWashington (CNN) - After months of speculation, Sen. John Thune, R-South Dakota, told supporters Tuesday that he will not seek the Republican presidential nomination in 2012 and instead will focus his time and efforts on Capitol Hill.
Thune released a joint statement with his wife, Kimberley, on his Facebook page shortly after noon saying that, for now, he needs to be in the Senate.

Washington (CNN) - The gay conservative organization GOProud will hold a fundraiser next week at the Virginia home of Republican strategist Mary Matalin, following its successful, yet controversial, participation in the recent Conservative Political Action Conference.
Tickets for the "Party on the Potomac" event run $500 per person and GOProud Chairman Christopher Barron said that the goal is to raise $100,000. Former Republican National Committee Chairman Ken Mehlman, who revealed last year that he was gay, will be among those attending the event at Matalin's home, Barron said. Washington (CNN) - Sen. Scott Brown, R-Massachusetts, said that he was sexually abused by a camp counselor at the age of 10, and physically and psychologically abused by his stepfathers, in an interview scheduled to air Sunday on CBS.
"Fortunately, nothing was ever fully consummated, so to speak," Brown said of the sexual abuse. "But it was certainly, back then, very traumatic."

Washington (CNN) - Mitt Romney accused President Obama Friday of being a "weak" leader and specifically questioned Obama's handling of the economic crisis and foreign affairs.
"An uncertain world has been made more dangerous by the lack of clear direction from a weak President," Romney said in a speech before the annual Conservative Political Action Conference meeting here in the nation's capital.

Washington (CNN) - Democrats have chosen Charlotte, North Carolina, as the host city for the 2012 Democratic National Convention.
Charlotte was one of four cities vying to host the convention where the Democratic Party will nominate President Barack Obama for a second term. Cleveland, Minneapolis and St. Louis were all in contention to host the event, which is expected to have a major economic impact on Charlotte and the surrounding metropolitan area.

The official announcement will be made Tuesday.
Washington (CNN) - Rep. Denny Rehberg is expected to announce that he is running for Senate, giving Republicans a strong challenger in Montana to Sen. Jon Tester, a Democrat elected in 2006.
The congressman will make his candidacy official on Saturday, a Republican with knowledge of Rehberg's decision confirms to CNN. The Republican would only speak on the condition of anonymity.
