Climate change deniers ‘serious threat’ to future, Obama says

Anaheim, California (CNN) — Describing lawmakers and pundits who deny manmade climate change as a “fairly serious threat to everybody’s future,” President Obama on Saturday called for less debate and more action in combating warming trends.

Delivering the address at University of California Irvine’s commencement, Obama underscored the view of some scientists that the effects of climate change are already being felt nationwide and said he was allocating new funds for communities recovering from natural disasters.

Obama’s gym routine revealed – though security wasn’t at risk

Washington (CNN) – A grimacing President Barack Obama, photographed at his hotel gym in Poland lifting free weights and working out on an elliptical, wasn’t in any danger from the sneaky photographer, the Secret Service said Wednesday.

An official with the agency said pictures and video of Obama working out at the Marriott Hotel Warsaw did not constitute a security breach, since all people entering and exiting his hotel would have been screened for potentially dangerous items.

Obama calls for review of death penalty after botched killing

Washington (CNN) – Calling a botched state killing in Oklahoma "deeply troubling," President Barack Obama said Friday the federal government would review death penalty procedures around the country.

Obama said he's asked Attorney General Eric Holder to conduct an analysis of how death row criminals are killed after an execution attempt in Oklahoma left an accused murderer writhing and convulsing following a lethal injection.

Biden to Boston memorial: ‘Twisted’ terrorists won’t prevail

(CNN) – Honoring victims of last year’s bombing near the finish line of the Boston Marathon, Vice President Joe Biden said Tuesday the terrorists who carried out the act could never claim victory over America’s ideals.

“You will send a resounding message around the world - not just around the world but to the terrorists – that we will never yield. We will never cower. America will never ever stand down,” Biden told survivors of the 2013 attack, which left three people dead and scores more injured.

‘Nothing grassroots’ about Ukraine uprisings, U.S. official says

Washington (CNN) – Attacks on police stations and government buildings in eastern Ukraine bear “telltale signs of Moscow’s involvement,” a top U.S. administration official said on Sunday, adding it was becoming more clear Russian President Vladimir Putin wants to expand his reach into the country.

Samantha Power, the American ambassador to the United Nations, said the latest attacks, in the city of Slaviansk, were “professional” and “coordinated” - similar to Russia’s incursion into the Crimean Peninsula last month.
