Gingrich think tank files for bankruptcy

NEW YORK (CNNMoney) - The health care think tank founded by Newt Gingrich is going under.

The Gingrich Group, also called the Center for Health Transformation, filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy protection Wednesday in an Atlanta federal court.

Wealthy would cash in under Romney tax plan

New York (CNNMoney) – Mitt Romney's new tax plan would mean lower taxes for most Americans. But some would benefit more than others.

According to a new analysis from the Tax Policy Center, wealthy Americans would see their taxes fall precipitously under Mitt Romney's new plan - which scraps the Alternative Minimum Tax and cuts marginal tax rates by 20%.

How Congress is killing the recovery

New York (CNNMoney) – Since the economy dropped off a cliff in 2008, members of Congress have not exactly been shy about casting blame for no-or-slow growth on a variety of bureaucrats, outside institutions and Wall Street power players.

Mitt Romney's plan to cut your taxes

New York (CNNMoney) – In a switch to a more aggressive tax plan, Mitt Romney said Wednesday that he now favors cutting marginal tax rates for individuals by 20%.

The candidate had previously said he would "maintain current tax rates on personal income" as president before moving to a "fairer, flatter, simpler tax structure" in the future.

PayPal co-founder donates millions to Ron Paul super PAC

New York (CNNMoney) – Silicon Valley renaissance man Peter Thiel donated another $1.7 million in January to a super PAC that backs Ron Paul, according to disclosure documents filed Monday.

The PayPal co-founder donated $1 million on January 3, and followed that up 10 days later with an additional $700,000 gift.

Santorum's charitable donations lag rivals

New York (CNNMoney) – White House hopeful Rick Santorum lags behind both his 2012 competitors and wealthy Americans in general when it comes to charitable giving, according to tax documents.

Santorum gave $81,500 to charity over the past four years, or 2.2% of the more than $3.6 million in total income he earned since leaving the Senate, the documents showed.
