(CNN) – A last-minute trip to Arizona for former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin ended with an unlikely gift from controversial Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio.

According to Arpaio's Twitter account, the tough on crime, anti-illegal immigration lightning rod gifted Palin a pair of pink underwear similar to those that inmates at his notorious Phoenix jail are supposedly required to wear.
