Vendor who alerted police to Times Square car bomb to run for Congress

New York (CNN) - One of the street vendors who alerted police to a smoking vehicle in Times Square that was later found to be carrying explosives says he's planning to run for Congress.

Duane Jackson, a registered Democrat and Vietnam veteran, told CNN Wednesday he plans to face off against Republican Representative Nan Hayworth in New York's 19th district in the November election.

Charles Rangel sold Dominican home noted in ethics investigation

NEW YORK (CNN) - Veteran Rep. Charles Rangel has sold his villa in the Dominican Republic that was the focus of a House ethics investigation.

The home in Punta Cana, which Rangel purchased in 1987 but failed to pay taxes on for 17 years, was sold for somewhere between $250,000 and $500,000, according to his personal financial disclosure report, which was released Wednesday.

Mayor Bloomberg Apologizes for Irish Drinking Comment

New York (CNN) –- New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg apologized Thursday for controversial comments he made about Irish people at an event hosted by the American Irish Historical Society.

Bloomberg said Wednesday evening at a book launch event celebrating the 250th anniversary of the St. Patrick's Day Parade that he is used to seeing "inebriated" Irish people hanging out of the windows at the center on St. Patrick’s Day, according to the society’s Executive Director Christopher Cahill.
