Obama to new grads: "No time for excuses"

Atlanta (CNN) – Past, present and future came together on a thunderstorm-filled Sunday, as President Barack Obama received an honorary doctorate and gave the commencement speech at historically black Morehouse College, where the Rev. Martin Luther King and many other prominent African-Americans spent their formative years.

After opening with several one-liners, and more smiles than we've seen from him in the damage-control-filled recent weeks, Obama delivered a serious message to the class of 2013.

Environmentalists occupy National Mall to fight climate change

(CNN) - Environmentalists packed several blocks around Washington's National Mall on Sunday, hoping to spur President Barack Obama to take strong measures against climate change.

Allison Spitz, 16, brandished a sign reading "Oil and Water Don't Mix," as she attended her first political demonstration.

For Sen. John Kerry, life seems like audition for secretary of state

(CNN) - Now that embattled U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Susan Rice has withdrawn her name from secretary of state consideration, attention is turning toward Sen. John Kerry, D-Massachusetts, the other top candidate to replace outgoing Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

Republicans opposed to a Rice nomination have bandied about Kerry's name for weeks, and Thursday, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell told CNN that Kerry would be a "popular choice with the Senate."
