Obama’s California weekend: Iraq, climate, and Father’s Day

Palm Springs, California (CNN) — President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle Obama are trading Washington’s late spring humidity for Southern California’s scorching desert heat, spending a long Father’s Day weekend near Palm Springs.

Like all presidential getaways, the Obamas’ Californian oasis comes equipped with a cadre of aides and secure communications equipment to ensure the business of running the country isn’t far away.

White House, others decry Saudi move to deny reporter for Israeli paper on Obama trip

(CNN) – Saudi Arabia’s decision to prevent a Jerusalem Post reporter from covering President Barack Obama’s stop in the Gulf Kingdom this week prompted harsh criticism from the White House and others on Tuesday.

Ben Rhodes, a deputy national security adviser, said the United States was “very disappointed by the Saudi decision” to deny a visa to Michael Wilner, the Washington bureau chief for the Israeli newspaper.
