(CNN) - In his State of the Union address, President Obama needs to reconnect with Independents, moderates and the middle class. These voters supported him in 2008, but they broke with him over the course of his first year in office, largely over spending. And the new CNN poll shows that only 25 percent of middle class voters believe the stimulus spending benefitted them. This is a pivotal moment in this still young presidency, but the challenges are clear. The president needs to reconnect with the center – not just with rhetoric but with his record.
