WASHINGTON (CNN) – President Bush will go to the scene of the deadly interstate bridge collapse in Minneapolis on Saturday, and First Lady Laura Bush will visit the site Friday, the White House has announced.
No details of the President’s stop have yet been disclosed.
Mrs. Bush was already scheduled to visit the Twin Cities, where she is to appear at the Republican National Committee Summer Meeting in Minneapolis, and the America’s Youth Fourth Regional Conference in St. Paul.
The White House says the First Lady will go to the Interstate 35W bridge collapse overlook, and then visit the command post to see volunteers and first responders.
White House Press Secretary Tony Snow said the President and Mrs. Bush learned of the collapse while having dinner Thursday. She was notified by members of the advance team already in Minneapolis, and told the President.

The GOP candidate for president usually doesn't win in Minnesota or here in Wisconsin. I'm sure he thinks he is winning votes in the normally progressive upper midwest. But, like most comments here are saying, please stay home Mr. President.
Hi Trish from another country, then you would complain that they did nothing.
Keep up the good work.
Yes the hatred that 'the uniter' has engendered in this country is just another of his sterling legacies.
Patrick said "Anybody who criticizes the President for trying to visit and offer his condolences to those who have lost their loved ones need to reevaluate their priorities."
Patrick, Bush is not there to console or anybody. He couldn't possibly care less about that town, its people, or anybody who died. Or he would have been there much sooner. To him, this is merely a photo-op – an opportunity to get his face on the news and to slam the Democrats on the evening news – that's all. He is truly despicable human being, and most of the country can't wait to be rid of him. We are all counting the days.
why is everyone blaming the collapse on political reasons? I dont think that the president can go over every bridges backgroung. some people even have bridges in their yard or parks and things. It was the engineers fault not the presidents!!
