Tancredo: Threaten to bomb Muslim holy sites in retaliation

Republican presidential hopeful Tom Tancredo

WASHINGTON (CNN) - Colorado Rep. Tom Tancredo's campaign stood by his assertion that bombing holy Muslim sites would serve as a good "deterrent" to prevent Islamic fundamentalists from attacking the United States, his spokeswoman said Friday.

"This shows that we mean business," said Bay Buchanan, a senior Tancredo adviser. "There's no more effective deterrent than that. But he is open-minded and willing to embrace other options. This is just a means to deter them from attacking us."

On Tuesday, Tancredo warned a group of Iowans that another terrorist attack would "cause a worldwide economic collapse." recorded his comments.

"If it is up to me, we are going to explain that an attack on this homeland of that nature would be followed by an attack on the holy sites in Mecca and Medina," Tancredo said. "That is the only thing I can think of that might deter somebody from doing what they would otherwise do. If I am wrong, fine, tell me, and I would be happy to do something else. But you had better find a deterrent, or you will find an attack."

Tom Casey, a deputy spokesman for the State Department, told CNN's Elise Labott that the congressman’s comments were "reprehensible" and "absolutely crazy." Tancredo was widely criticized in 2005 for making a similar suggestion.

Only thing that's scarier than the Muslim terrorists are the liberals who want forever appease the Muslims at all cost.

Liberalism truly is an incurable mental disease.

Why don't we stop worrying about IF/WHEN Americans will die at the hands of the next terrorist attack and start spending money to save Americans who ARE dying in America. If we spent a fraction of the trillion-dollar war cost on saving starving, homeless, and uninsured Americans, we would save more lives than trying to prevent a POTENTIAL attack by sending our youth into combat zones, where Americans ARE dying.

I support Tancredo 110%! Deterrent worked in the Cold War and it will work again. If we get nuked, Mecca and Medina should both become glass parking lots.

If your enemy still acts like it is the middle ages then we need to find a way to intimidate them on their level. So far nothing else has worked. Maybe a few suicide bombers would think before killing innocents if they realize Allah couldn't stop their holiest sites from being destroyed, then it's possible they might not get their 72 virgins and eternal life in paradise. Bravo Mr. Tancredo, it takes guts and the ability to actually voice what needs to be done. I would vote for him in a heartbeat.

While most US voters realize Tancredo is an idiot without a realistic chance at the presidency, it’s only a matter of time before Al-Jeezera and radical imams try to spin this as representing how all of America feels and that Tancredo has a legitimate shot at becoming president.

    On basis I AGREE

All it would take is one atomic strike on a major islamo-nazi population center to deter them. The only way to defeat an enemy without reason is to be even less reasonable than they are.

    Politicians, can't live with'em, can't live without'em.

Lets take a step back, "we will not make the distinction between those who harbor terrorists and those who support terrorism". So peoples, the answer is so simple yet complicated: issue an executive order to top level foreign diplomats to deliver messages abroad that Damascus and Tehran (isn't the verbal threat of extinction to another country an act of war? If not, it should be) have 48-72 hours to evacuate their citizens, all mullahs and presidents must stay within city limits. Level them, then meet where ever it is they meet in Egypt for a peace accord. Why? because they both openly sponsor terrorism. Hamas and Hezbollah. Wake up!! Then you have no support for Gaza, no support for Lebanon!! Golan Heights solved!! Gaza solved!! After the dust settles, Israel can grant "right of return" to Gaza only. 99.998% problem solved. Ahhhh but is it.
Then we can see who is our TRUE ally and who isn't. A war folks is fought to WIN, not to be politically correct in doing so. We in the good ol Usof A will surely lose if that is the case. Why? because the "other side" does not apply to the same standard.

By the way...on the return trip home, drop a bunker buster on the north pole, then tell the Russians they can have it. You have no idea what kind of problem that is going
to bring in the very near future….watch and remember.

And oh yeah... The Middle East thing... It will NEVER end because the standard of life in the Middle East is Death. In the West it is Life. Hence the dilemma
that God of Abraham spoke of.. eh?

Tancredo is an idiot extraordinaire! Blowing up Muslim holy sites will only serve to upset and inflame the millions of peaceful Muslims with whom we all share the planet. There is no reason to further exaggerate the rift between our civilizations.

Wow. I don't even know what to say. If we attack Mecca, or other holy Muslims sites, we will ignite a fire against us that we will NEVER be able to extinguish. Put it on the other foot, "Arab politician professes desire to bomb the Vatican as a result of bombing by the US in XYZ country." Completely unreasonable response, right? That idea is as bad as what this nut job is espousing.

Mr. Tancredo apparently assumes that all Muslims are currently attempting to attack America, rather than the extremist 1% or less. Although, if his actions were followed, we would surely see that number climb significantly.

You want an alternative suggestion. Work harder to become allies with the countries and surrounding countries of the areas that these terrorists are hiding in.

Tancredo is insane if he things bombing Islamic holy sites will be a deterrent. It would mean quite the opposite and currently moderate Muslims would then want to wage war on the US. Tancredo can't be trusted with any political power, especially the white house.

It's really amusing that all negative comments about Tancredo are filled with words like idiot, nut crack etc. That is the way modern liberals argue -no respect to the opponent, very little about the essence, just insult and presumption of intellectual and moral superiority.
The guy just said that id you hit our women and children we will respond disproportionately (the concept of proportional military response is a joke in itself).

That's the best idea yet. Not only is Tancredo the only politician with the guts to stand up and attempt to rid America of the unlawful, illegal immigrants, but he's got the wherewithal to finally do something effective to the Islamo-Fascist terrorists!

I am an Atheist, but AMEN!!!!!! That is all they understand....When they realize that their God will not protect them, then they will have to find another strategy besides terror, or evolve into a peaceful race. If the leaders of the churches that spread, and fund this fundamentalism realize that the shrines are at risk from the same insane methodology, then they may teach a more peaceful, understanding, progressive message.

JASON – If you took the time to read what I said I quoted "Separation of Church and State." That phrase is not in any document our founding fathers created.

So you get your facts straight before you respond.

I did not say that there should not be a Separation of Church and State. There should be. NO GOVERNMENT should make a law telling or forcing someone to believe or worship in a certain way. This was one of the primary reasons our ancestors left other countries and came here (religious persecution.) The is what will happen when the Muslim Religion takes over the world. You will be under "Islamic Law" and you will be forced to become a Muslim or die!

Rice and Gates are offering the Saudis cash and weaponry while Tancredo (another Republican), political cottage cheese candidate, is offering to wipe out their holy sites.

Huh? Does the left hand of the party know what the right of the party is doing?

Mr. Tancredo seems to know their aquiles tendon better than anybody else, the only way these animals would stop from attacking us is exactly what he is proposing, even their own life seems worthless to them, I serious warning should be issued, and if attacked by them carry on the threat, let them learn the lesson.
