Tancredo defends threat to bomb Muslim holy sites

Tancredo defended his comments on Sunday

WASHINGTON (CNN) - Colorado Rep. Tom Tancredo continued to defend his comments that threatening to bomb Muslim holy sites would be the right way to "deter any kind of aggression" from terrorists and said that anyone who wouldn't do the same "isn't fit to be president" on Sunday morning.

"I'm telling you right now that anybody that would suggest that we should take anything like this off the table in order to deter that kind of event in the United States isn't fit to be president of the United States," the GOP presidential candidate said.

During a campaign stop in Iowa on Tuesday, Tancredo said that “an attack on this homeland of that nature would be followed by an attack on the holy sites in Mecca and Medina.” Tom Casey, a deputy spokesman for the State Department, told CNN that Tancredo's comments were "reprehensible" and "absolutely crazy." But Tancredo said that when the State Department complains about things he says, he feels more confident.

"Yes, the State Department. Boy, when they start complaining about things I say, I feel a lot better about the things I say, I'll tell you right now," Tancredo said, to laughter from the audience.

Never mind what COUNTRY the "holy sites " are in?>

So if we were dealing with fundamentalist Christian extremists in some country, we should bomb Bethlehem or Jerusalem?

Maybe all Muslim countries are the same to this nut!

    Dumb & Dumber
Why the holy icons? Why not the Saudi palaces? After all the number of terrorist attacks financed by the Saudi family is well documented. Oh yeah what was I thinking we just sold them $20B of weapons. I guess at least we'll know where the next terrorits weapons come from, the Bush White House!

Wow... someone that might conceivably be a worse President than the one we have. Can America strike out any worse?

Yeah, and if a Catholic attacks us we should blow up the Vatican. That'll show 'em!
This fringe candidate is clearly so desperate for attention that he's reaching for outrageous things to say
even knowing that they make no sense. Seems to be working for him . . .

Tancredo's idea is not at all absurd. Al Quaeda bombed our symblic heart on 9/11. They also destroyed ancient Budhist sacred places wantonly... and they even destroy their own mosques. So why not hit them where it hurts?

Before we retaliate we should be sure who is responsible we still think that foriegn parties brought down the twin towers when it has been proven that they were demolished from within the planes were just a prop in a play

Muslims are not our enemy. Extremism like Osama Bin Laden and Tom Tancredo is the enemy. If we are attacked, we should attack those who attacked us, not the over 1 billion decent Muslims in the world.

Muslims are not our enemy. Extremism like Osama Bin Laden, and Tom Tancredo is the enemy. Attacking Mecca does not strike back at those who attack us, it strikes over a billion decent Muslims who are not terrorists. Muslims are good people, clearly Tom Tancredo has never gotten to know any of them.

The voters will punish the GOP in 08 like never before. America's temper is boiling and it will reach the limit in o8 its time for regime change. Just to make sure everyone understands if we listen to this idiot we will be turning the number of extremeist from less than 1 million to 2 billion. Keep believing that Muslims are peaceful, good people and keep granting them constitutional rights that are denied most Christian Americans. Good luck espousing liberal lunacy when Americans are living under Shari ah law.

If the extremist Muslims are just a small percentage of a peaceful Islamic Nation – why is not the majority of Muslims calling for these terrorist to be rooted out of their religion?

I will tell you why – because they either don't want to (and earnestly desire a holy war and world domination) or they are held captive in their own religion.

When Congressman Tancredo’s retaliatory logic is applied to another faith, it is totally irrelevant. "What if a Catholic person was a terrorist? Would we bomb the Vatican?" Catholic Priests were found to have molested hundreds of children and the church was held accountable. When radical Christians were targeting abortion clinics, those extremist were brought to justice.

Putting creditable threats to sacred Muslim holy sites will hopefully bring their own religious members to deal with the terrorist. Trust me, there are Muslims all around the world that know where the terrorist are and could provide the information to the proper authorities (not just the United States). My surmise is they don't want to, primarily because their faith and beliefs says that all infidels (That mean's all non-Muslims – are you listening liberals?) must convert to Islam or die by the sword.

I suggest you order a Quran on Amazon.com and pick a new, really cool Muslim name or realize they will kill you, your spouse and all your children because you are not of their faith. (Regardless of what you think or feel).

This is the way they believe – their faith defies our logic. Either deal with them in terms they understand, or face their judgment – Conversation or Death – Your Choice.

Wow! Jihadists are participating in what they believe is a holy war against us, and now they can point to a comment like this, from a presidential candidate and member of the United States Congress, to justify themselves even further. Way to go Tom!

AND, should we ever actually threaten or, God forbid, carry through with something like that, we'd be seeing even more radical islamists than ever before. It would be a disaster not to mention just plain wrong.

    This is absolutely NUTS!!

Why do they let this man out of his cage? Everytime he opens his mouth, he just proves what a flaming idiot he is. All he is doing is advocating terrorism, he seems to think it is ok if we're the ones doing it. Did the attack on the twin towers deter US from our warmongering in the Middle east? No, it had the exact opposite effect.

This guy is a complete embarassment and his statements of collective guilt and punishment would make Hitler proud.

Dale from NY. Don't be an idiot. The Trade Center was brought down by the attacking planes and nothing other than that has been even remotely proven. Check out the detailed computer recreation of the entire event on YouTube.

Mr. Tancredo should be flogged in the public square for making such inflammatory remarks. Members of the house should vote to admonish his words. The state department should apologize to the Muslim community. The people that attacked our country are not the same ones that worship at these sites.

For once, someone in America understands the gravity of their situation. Islamic terrorist attacks against America is prejudiced on their christian heritage. But even if 'GOD' is removed from their constitution and pledge today, the attacks will not stop. A weak America is a threat to world peace and the beginning of the end the world order as we know it today.

I am not a person who believes in war, but to those who are appointed to fight the enemy, then this comment to blow up Mecca and all the muslim holy sites is right on!
Maybe they would realize that the world is not going to sit by and be taken over by crazy muslims who want to kill all Christians and rule the world.
