Jenna Bush and Henry Hager in 2005.
WASHINGTON (CNN) — President and Laura Bush's daughter, Jenna, is engaged to be married, the White House announced Thursday.
Jenna Bush, 25, is marrying Henry Hager, 28, a former White House aide who used to work with Karl Rove, and is a graduate of the University of Virginia School of Business, according to the Associated Press. Henry Hager’s father, John, is the chairman of the Virginia Republican Party, and the former lieutenant governor of Virginia.
The two met during the 2004 presidential campaign, but were not first spotted together until the president's inauguration in 2005, according to Style Magazine.
The first lady's office tells CNN the proposal occurred last night. The two are currently vacationing together in Maine.
No word if Hager asked the president for permission before the proposal.
No wedding date has been set.
Since no one else is wishing them concrats, I will. Best wishes Jenna & Henry.
This is not breaking news... There are more important things going on in the world. The Minners, the Peru quake, the war.....
"you've waisted my time"
Did you mean "wasted"?
I didn't realize so many narrow minded people would feel so compelled to write rubbish about Jenna Bush's engagement on here. If you don't like the news that's posted here, go to another news website until you finally find news you are happy about.
Take a moment and think of the time it took for all of you to ask "Who Cares" and whine about it not being important, and then comment. Good or bad...you cared.
These Clinton and Bush dynasties have got to stop. Husbands, Wives, sons and daughters, now grandchildren running the country is not democratic. We need new blood, not recycled policies.
Johnny Simancas,
Did you vote for Bush once or twice?
Big who cares?
I hope CNN pays attention to the outpouring of indifference and outrage posted here.
I would like to see the Ticker become a mainstream center for honest and open political dialogue, but that’s not going to happen as long as the stories are all about Angelina Jolie and pancake-flipping.
Where do we do about health care policy? What are the candidates positions on education?
What should be done about trade with China in the wake of our massive national debt and the poison-import scandal? I think this is a great place for America to argue these issues. Instead we get to fight about whether Jenna wears white.
Who cares, indeed?
congrats despite what other people are saying about the breaking news.getting to start your life with someone is great!!!!!!!!!!! p.s. hope you guys have an amazing life together
plus guys this is the presidents daughter so show some excitement. he is only trying to do what he thinks is best for the country
Jim and your "wide mind" ... we wrote because a news agency like CNN can report this idiocy somewhere on the entertainment page or useless information page, because she is not headline grabbing. She hasn't been in her father's entire presidency, until apparently now, when CNN considers this "news worthy." Besides, we are entitled to our opinion ... us "narrow minded" folks.
"Um so she is the daughter of our commander in chief and if something happens it is breaking news." So does that mean if one of them broke a nail CNN should lead off with that story.
To whoever said that if this was Clinton's daughter there wouldn't be this many negative responses, You're an idiot. The only reason there would be fewer responses would be because her dad wasn't nearly as hated and rightfully so. I for one couldn't care less about the fact that this is Bush's daughter..... I'm mad that CNN buys into the celeb culture and considers this waste of space person who has no effect on my life "breaking news". I'd rather read about things that actually matter to me and to the rest of the world.
Is this the same "Jenna, the party girl!".
I'm chuckling that Hager was Karl Rove's lacky... did Karl engineer this thing?
And did all you ultra conservatives (who like to portray "liberals" as such moral-less people) notice that Jenna & Hager are "vacationing together" in Maine. Whooo– two rooms or one? Whooo– bad nasty people.
The whole thing is such a friggin' joke!
The father of Jenna's new fiance:
-Chairman of the Republican Party of Virginia
-Former Assistant Secretary of the Department of Education's Office of Special Education and Rehabilitation Services (appointed to this position by George W. Bush on May 24, 2004)
-Co-chaired the Senatorial campaign for Oliver North
-Served as the director of Virginia's homeland security
-Elected Lieutenant Governor of Virginia in 1997

Dude. How could you NOT care? Tau's taking over the White House in 2012. Andy Tennille=Secretary of Agriculture. This is totally newsworthy.
I prefer the good ole days of Jenna making news by being so wasted she could barely stand... ::sigh::
Good luck to both!

This story should not have made it on CNN.
I am a loser. How do I know? I'm commenting on this blog. Anyone who wastes time and resources complaining about CNN (and/or the Bush family) over this item is a loser.
wow, yesterday it was the right whining, now, today, it's the lefties moaning. Can't please anyone, can ya, CNN? :0P Congrats to the Bush family!
Who cares!
I agree with Matthew from Skokie. That said, I have to say this is LESS than "news"! UN-newsworthy items I'd rather hear about than this - and I had a gut full of them all when they were "news":
– more on Anna Nicole Smith;
– Paris Hilton;
– Nicole Ritchie;
– Spears/Federline (I'm making myself sick...);
– Lindsay Lohan;
and it was all I could do to list those! She's marrying a Rove-lodyte? There's just no accounting for taste....
Dipwads! No one cared when Chelsea had a BF, no one cared when Bill had an affair... the only ones that care about this stuff are the conservatives, because it distracts the commoners from your ineptitude at running a nation.
I am happy for her as a person. Granted it may have warranted being in the news. It did not warrant being a breaking news, e-mail generating media frenzy.
Give the woman some space and concentrate on her daddy's silliness.
LOVELY!!! The world doesn't need any more Bush's running around. See! Proof evolution and natural selection has it's flaws....
