President Bush will give his progress report on Iraq next week, based on information from Gen. David Petraeus.
WASHINGTON (CNN) - When President Bush made a surprise visit to Iraq last weekend, he made clear he was pleased with what he saw.
"The security situation is changing," Bush told reporters during the visit. "There's more work to be done. But reconciliation is taking place."
But according to the Sydney Morning Herald of Australia, the president gave a more-to-the-point assessment to Australia Deputy Prime Minister Mark Vaile.
"We're kicking ass," Bush said to Vaile Tuesday, according the Herald, after the deputy prime minister inquired about his trip to Iraq.
On Thursday, White House spokeswoman Dana Perino would not confirm or deny the reported comment. (Related Video: Jack Cafferty reads your e-mails on Bush's blunt talk)
This isn't the first blunt comment Bush was overheard making to a world leader. At last year's G8 summit, a live microphone picked up the president telling then-British Prime Minister Tony Blair that the United Nations needs to "get Syria to get Hezbollah to stop doing this s**t."

George Bush is a small man. Additionally, he is a heck of a liar.We should all know this by now.
lobo
This President continues to demonstrate that he is an absolute moron and that he thinks he is a kid in a candy store. To make a comment like "we're kicking ass" is the kind of thing you'd here on a high school football field - not in a situation in which you're directly responsible for the deaths of 3700+ Americans and tens of thousands of Iraqis and have gotten the United States into a war for which their is no easy way out.
Why would his statement surprise anyone?
When he was Govenor of Texas he continually praised their Justice System for performing the highest number of executions across America! In fact according to Amnesty International, Texas performed more executions in the same time period than Communist China! What a great achievement. The Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles seldom met to discuss either and if they did the members discussed the life and death situations of prisoners via telephone. They apparently didn't consider life a serious enough matter to discuss face to face. (Not long ago the media informed the world that many of those executions took the lives of innocent people!)
So I wasn't surprised by Bush's rush to war and his "We'll Hunt Them Down." Rhetoric.
And I'm still not surprised by the rough and ready cowboy, jargon he recklessly puts out to the media.
Yet, this is the same man who would like us to believe he cries alot !! Crocodile Tears I guess.
Which Iraq is he talking about cause it's certainly not the same one I've been hearing about.
Oh yes. We are surely kicking ass in Iraq.
The question is whose ass are we kicking? All our dead and wounded soldiers? All the Iraqi dead and wounded? All the Iraqi refugees?
Anyone who makes a comment like that is psychotic.
If Dubya wanted to display his ability to embarrass our nation, then I say "Mission Accomplished!"
I'm glad to see we all can speak about this openly. If it weren't for people like President Bush, we would not have freedom of speech and all be put in jail and/or to death.
God Bless our President and our Great Country
The only ass Bush, the Republicans, and Hillary Clinton are kicking is Al-Maliki, the head of the Iraqi government... I still can't believe they all publicly denounced him while he is struggling for power.
very nice for the leader of the free world who claims to be a born-again christian Jesus would be proud tpo hear one of his children being embarassing again, make the comment to all the parents who lost children in this insane war.
We're doing so well that Bin Laden is addressing the American People on the anniversary of 9/11!
I am so sickened by this idiot that I simply must decline to comment and for me that is saying something.
All I can say is, Dear Lord, somebody IMPEACH him. Get him out of there now!
We're kicking it too in Congress, where we sent our reresentatives to end this endless religious civil war which General Petraeus says is militarily unwinnable. Signed: Your employers, the majority of Americans.
bush's bank account is the only thing truly "kicking ass"... oh, and his desire to strip away the freedom of the American people...
Sure, if "kicking ass" means killing women and children, and absolutely frightening those who aren't already dead.
What an imbecile! It's too bad he didn't put his sorry ass in the line of fire...
Thank ypu, CNN, for confirming yet again what a putz this "president" is.
He's an immature frat boy who has no business on the world stage dealing with real leaders.
Another 'Bring it on' moment perhaps? Or is it a 'Mission Accomplished' mentality?
It’s important to recognize that our armed services merely act as shield and sword. And as far as shields and swords go, we definitely have the best, most “kick ass” there is, something for which I am very proud and very thankful. But when it comes to people wielding the shield and sword, metaphorically speaking, we probably have one of the least competent, least “kick-ass” of all time (i.e. Bush).
Bush says, "we're kicking ass." Ya sure, if killing a million people (many of them civilians) and leaving a hornet's nest of warring factions is kicking ass. The only ass Bush is kicking is his own as he stumbles through the last days of his presidency.
Worst. President. Ever.
It amazes me that this guy has somehow managed not to get impeached. George W. Bush has singlehandedly dragged the reputation of the United States and its citizens to an all-time low. But instead of getting a clue about the damage he has done, he just keeps adding fuel to the flames by utilizing his typical, classless rhetoric to describe his version of reality.
Wow, not only does he speak English like it's his second language, he's delusional too! Yikes
What part of "Mission Accomplished" don't you people get? Oh, yeah, that's right... never mind. Seriously though, don't you get the sense that Hitler reassured people from his bunker that his forces were "kicking ass" against the Soviets and Americans? I doubt even Bush's friends (those who haven't bailed yet, and are still gathering material for their books) place much credability in his remarks.
What an excellent example to set for our children and grandchildren. The President, during my 63 years, has always been someone we looked up to even when we didn't believe what he was doing. It's a sad day in American history when the President talks in such a manner publicly. Hopefully our next President will have some class.
Kicking Ass??? Misson accomplished, Huh, George? To quote one of your more eloquent statements "Fool me once, shame one me...Fool me...can't get fooled again". What a moron
