Bush on Iraq: 'We're kicking ass'

President Bush will give his progress report on Iraq next week, based on information from Gen. David Petraeus.

WASHINGTON (CNN) - When President Bush made a surprise visit to Iraq last weekend, he made clear he was pleased with what he saw.

"The security situation is changing," Bush told reporters during the visit. "There's more work to be done. But reconciliation is taking place."

But according to the Sydney Morning Herald of Australia, the president gave a more-to-the-point assessment to Australia Deputy Prime Minister Mark Vaile.

"We're kicking ass," Bush said to Vaile Tuesday, according the Herald, after the deputy prime minister inquired about his trip to Iraq.

On Thursday, White House spokeswoman Dana Perino would not confirm or deny the reported comment. (Related Video: Jack Cafferty reads your e-mails on Bush's blunt talk)

This isn't the first blunt comment Bush was overheard making to a world leader. At last year's G8 summit, a live microphone picked up the president telling then-British Prime Minister Tony Blair that the United Nations needs to "get Syria to get Hezbollah to stop doing this s**t."

    To Clint From Menlo Park:

    You asked 'were we kicking ass when some of our people shot up a bunch of Iraqi women and children'

    I have to assume you are referring to our military. You can bad mouth this president, but leave our military alone. My son is over in Iraq, serving his country-and I am very proud of him. Your negative comments disgust me.

    Bush know how to handle things and the liberals hate him for it. Nice to see someone talk straight these days. And he's right, and that's another reason why liberals hate him.

    surrender is not an option, so ofcourse we have to kick some ass. I am still not sure if I understand what is the victory in this war? And for all those who think we are now safer because we are confronting the enemy wait till these seeds of hatred that are sowed come to haunt us!

    He's right of course- we have been kicking ass. In fact we've been kicking ass since we went in. And what good has it done us??? If we had a leader who realized there's more to foreign affairs than just ass kicking we might have spent some time on rational planning for the post-war occupation. But noooo- we have a President who thought (and evidently still does) all we had to do was kick ass, and everything would then take care of itself.

    As the Administration tries to put lipstick on this pig in the face of extremely negative assessments, Bush goes out on patrol and makes a adolescent comment like this. Do you think whoever's left of this neocon 'brain' trust were wincing back in Washington? This guy needs a chaperone.

    I think this quote from a previous comment shows something very clearly:

    "'I just want to close my eyes and ears until he is out of office.'

    It seems that some folks need this war to fail. What will it take to get the people in the "hate Bush" movement to set aside their prejudice and listen? There is some good happening and a potential for great things in Iraq.

    We need to give a special ass-kickin' to Osama Bin Laden. May I suggest testing some nuclear (or nucular as the Prez would say !) weapons in those mountains on the Afghan border?!

    Oh goody, another "Bring it On" moment, just what we need. I will give Lil' Bush this much, he certainly is kicking SOMEONE'S ass:

    Our very tired and over extended Military who continue to serve honorably;

    The Constitution;

    The taxpaying American citizen;

    The private Iraqi citizen.

    This kid is an embarrassment to this country and should be given a VERY long "time-out", preferably in the corner of a 10' x 10' cell.

    When is Bush planning on kicking Osama Bin Laden's ass? Or was he referring to the asses he's kicked that are buried in Arlington? Or maybe just our taxes? Little boy George, grow up, you're not in the frat house. People die in the job you've got.

    sad. is congress deaf? blind? mute? why is impeachment off the table? why are we settling down for a state of appeasement? this man isnt protecting it any wonder why the world despises American foriegn policy when we resort to guns bombs and violence instead of pursuing more noble and more respected alternatives such as diplomacy and well, listening to experts? Now he insults all of the deceased on both sides and furthers the public's understanding of his prepubescent mindset...this 'world leader' is sure kicking ass...

    Here in America, before police recruits get to carry a gun and serve the public, their intelligence is tested, their physical ability is tested and their psychological stability and suitability is evaluated. So why is it that here in America, we allow the trigger of the most powerful weapon on the planet to fall under the finger of a person whose most outstanding qualifications seem to be their political connections and the amount of money in the "Family's" bank account? Who are we calling stupid?

    After reading this article I feel President Bush should have not made a statement to his Vaile regarding kicking butt. President Bush is an authority figure not a common person, the entire US is depending on him to make good decisions and he should stick to the issues.

    What an idjit ... it's one thing to try and sound all down-to-earth and "reg'lar folksy" and it's quite another to sound like a boob in the attempt. There's just been too many US leaders in the past who've been able to communicate their thoughts sincerely and succinctly while still coming off as educated adults to let this bean brain off the hook. World, we're sorry.

    I love how people rattle off about GW killing thousands upon thousands of American men and women, when you actually have no clue what you're talking about.

    So far, approx. 3750 members of our armed forces have been killed, and another 300 coalition forces (non-US.)

    Compare that to the nearly 60,000 that died in Veitnam. Or how about the 3000 civilians that were murdered in one morning, six years ago in New York.

    We absolutely are kicking ass, and while some of you may scoff at such vulgarities... I've got news for you, war is a vulgar business.

    Whether or not I agree with his assessment, at least President Bush can make his point in three words. I'm tired of political speak where very simple points are mired in paragraphs of useless jargon.

    I have forwarded a copy of your message to the FBI's Western Regional Office in SF (which I understand is not too far from Menlo Park). Threatening the President of the United States is no light offense.

    I hope you are given the chance to explain yourself to the authorities. You reek of home-grown terrorist ideals mirroring Timothy McVeigh.

    That's just weak dude. Did you pee your pants while reading the post? It's unfortunate that you're too blinded by your "Bush Apologist" mind-set to see and hear how frustrated the American people are with this clown of a president. I would feel sorry for your but I can't feel bad for someone who is wilfully and blissfully ignorant.
