The target of a political firestorm this week for its NY Times ad, MoveOn.org is launching a new TV ad next week.
WASHINGTON (CNN) - Five days after MoveOn.org set off a political firestorm by publishing an ad in the New York Times attacking the top U.S. commander in Iraq, Gen. David Petraeus, the liberal advocacy group has set its sights on President Bush.
The organization announced Friday it is rolling out a new national television ad campaign next week accusing Bush of "a betrayal of trust."
"Before the surge, George Bush had 130,000 troops stuck in Iraq," states the ad's narrator. "Americans had elected a new Congress to bring them home. Instead, Bush sent 30,000 more troops. "
"Now he's making a big deal about you guessed it...pulling out 30,000," the narrator adds. "So, next year, there will still be 130,000 troops stuck in Iraq."
"[President Bush has] given us a sham draw-down plan — 30,000 troops by next July is not a plan to end the war," Nita Chaudhary, a spokeswoman for the organization said in a statement. "No one is fooled by this. It’s just a political scheme to provide cover for Republicans and run out the clock to the end of his term."
Absent from the television spot is Petraeus, who was accused by MoveOn in its now infamous "Petraeus or Betray us" New York Times ad of not being truthful in his Iraq report for political reasons.
The Times ad claimed Patraeus "will not admit what everyone knows: Iraq is mired in an unwinnable religious civil war." It also suggested that Petraeus' testimony was influenced by the White House.
Eli Pariser, executive director of MoveOn.org, told CNN the group wanted to move past Petraeus in the TV ad campaign and "remind people about the president's role in this as well."
And despite condemnation from members of both parties over the ad in the New York Times, Pariser says he has no regrets the organization placed it, saying, "We're happy it caused people to take a close look at the statistics."
Meanwhile former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, a candidate for president, placed his own ad in the New York Times Friday rebutting MoveOn.org and attacking "the Democrats' orchestrated attacks on General Petraeus."

Some one PLEASE get Rudy his diaper, his binky and his blankie! He's making a MESS of himself.
At least somebody has some stones. Any Democratic "public servants"
out there in the peanut gallery?
CNN "Betrays US"
MoveOn.org has done more to make me a lifelong Republican than any other group or individual I have ever encountered. For that I thank you.
The ad hasn't caused to look more at the statistic, it's confirmed once again that the far left liberals of the world do not understand what it takes for democracy to triumph over terroism!
As an American, I'd like to see our president held accountable for his actions.
He HAS betrayed the trust of not only the United States of America, but the world 🙁
Please raise your hand if lost your trust in W because of this report?
Its obvious that MoveOn.org is doing nothing but spewing liberal hate. But I'm glad to see all you dems coming to their defense. It really helps put your desires for tolerance into context..
Has Sen. McCarthy been reincarnated? What sick sick people!
Petraeus is an honorable soldier who is knowingly being used by Bush and Cheney to prolong a war the people have rejected. If Congress won't stop them, who will? On this issue, you're either for refereeing an endless religious civil war that is unwinnbable, or bringing troops home safely and quickly.
To slinkymalinky ...
I never held trust in dumbya beyond destroying that which he touch. The "I told you so" 's really suck ...
Now we are left to clean up the mess this idiot created and WE let him. Now it is time for US to be held accountable.
I have a hard time to tell which side moveon.org is with? But at least this add isnt suggesting Americans who swore thier lives to serve and protect the government in the military as traitors. That last ad helped the republicans a lot more then it did dems. Leave bashing the miltary out of politics for the military has no choice to due what the president orders them to do. And almost everyone knows that. I wished we had a choice what I can do or not due in the military. Then I wont be sitting out here in Iraq with all these American hatters tring to figure out a new way to kill us and teach their kids to have more kids and keep this never ending war going.
Mr Pariser,
The reason your little club wants to get past your attack on the General is because picking on someone's name in the fashion that noyoumoveon.org did smacks of racist behavior.
Didn't your mommy ever teach you that it was time to put on your big boy pants and quit the sticks and stones method of communications? Or would you rather resort to tit for tat, Mr. Eel-Eye Pass Gasser,
Do you know Rudy lives with two gay men? Nothing against gay men. Would you elect a President who lives with two gay men? Is it conservatism?
Why is CNN running a news item about a paid advertisement they are about to start running on Monday? Isn't this a terrible conflict of interest, reporting as legitimate news the opinions of someone who has paid them a lot of money for an ad campaign they will be involved in?

He does not. He temporarily moved in with his friends while he was going through his divorce. That was in 2000. He consequently married Judith Nathan in 2003.
A man goes through a divorce, moves out, and stays with friends. Is that unusual? I guess it is the fact that the men are gay that you seem to be upset about. That makes you a homophobe.
Do you know all the friends of President Bush? I doubt it.
Giuliani has never described himself as a conservative. His stance on social issues is well publicized. Your feeble attempt at warping facts failed. You're going to have to do better than that.
Moveon.Org is a 501-c-4 organization which does NOT provide tax deduction to contributors. HOWEVER – Moveon.Org does receive significant contributions from The San Francisco Foundation (which calls itself a 501-c-3, providing tax deductions to contributors).
It's time to investigate Moveon.Org and it's contributors – exposing these corrupt organizations.
Americans Coming Together (ACT) which was a front for George Soros and other rich liberals was recently fined over $750,000 for violating the FEC regulations in the last election.
NOW is the time to stop these organizations from attempting to hijack the US Presidential Election.
I think the ads my moveon.org are great! Right in the tradition of the swift boat ads that plagued Kerry during the last election.
Too bad the republicans can't take the heat that they started in 2004.
To Moveon – keep up the good work and place some impeach Bush ads!
Veronica said,"Some one PLEASE get Rudy his diaper, his binky and his blankie! He's making a MESS of himself".
I see you're follwing the lead of MoveOn. If you can't make your case with facts, use smear, character assassination, and name-calling tactics.
MoveOn effectively told the country withthat ad that that they neither support the war or our troops and Rudy Giuliani called them on it. Good.
Anybody over at MoveOn (or you Veronica) understand that the right to publish that kind of material, as they did in the NY Times, is only possible because our armed forces, let by generals like Gen. David Petraeus, have protected those freedoms over the past 200+ years?
And now you want to call Rudy Giuliani a cry baby. Hmmm. Seems like you're whining pretty good yourself here.
One would have to have had trust in Bush to have had that trust betrayed.
A former Republican totally alienated from the evangelical, faith based, military lobbyist controlled GOP echoes the sentiments of Drake Bellini of Grand Rapids, MI.
Any fool that thinks the 21st Century era GOP is the friend of the middle class is blind, dumb or stupid.
The Republican PR machine taught us to show no mercy and attack, attack, attack. So I say HOORAY for Moveon.org.
President Bush is talking about the terrorism for the last six years to convince the people that the Republican Party and "He" is doing a great job to America and the world. But he never say how many people lost their lives including military and the civilians and how many people got injured in this last six years.
He like to send more military to Iraq to widen the graveyards of Iraqi soil, if democrats stay silent for a few hours. If one of the Superpower leader's mind and brain would be reversed it should be the end of the world,.
What's exactly what I would expect from a person from Kentucky!
Do you really understand what is going on? Moveon.org has the guts to stand up and be counted.
We have the right to speak up against the people in charge.
MoveOn.org has done more to make me a lifelong Republican than any other group or individual I have ever encountered. For that I thank you.

Finally some one who will tell us the truth. gwb has betrayed are trust and committed crimes in the proses we need to hold him accountable. We need to impeach gwb and chenney, and they need to answer for the 3700 american solders dead. For there war against “terror” there weren’t any terrorist there until we got there.
Truth hurts, get over it republicans. You're the majority who voted to re-elect the biggest mistake in the history of presidents back into the White House.
Whether we like MoveOn or not, it is absolutely true that George Bush has betrayed the American people. The removal of 30,000 troops is something he MUST do because of limits on deployments. Plus, do we honestly think that violence is going to stay down in Iraq? We're never going to fully pacify the insurgency no matter how many bombs we drop or how many people we kill.
