Romney: My wife is 'prettier' than Bill Clinton

AMES, Iowa (CNN) - Commenting Saturday on a new Time Magazine cover story titled "The Real Running Mates" - which focuses on the current crop of presidential candidates' spouses - Republican candidate Mitt Romney said his wife would make a "prettier first lady" than former president Bill Clinton.
"It has a picture of five of the possible first ladies," the former Massachusetts governor said. "In the upper left hand corner it has my wife, and then next to it, it has Bill Clinton. And she is a much prettier first lady than Bill Clinton, I can tell you that!"
The cover story features a photograph of a commemorative White House china plate. On it are the faces of five potential 'first spouses' - Bill Clinton, Ann Romney, Elizabeth Edwards, Judith Nathan and Michelle Obama.
Romney made the comments at his tent at the University of Iowa/Iowa State football game. When asked which team he would be supporting, Romney chose to stay neutral, but after a few more people asked the same question, he saw an opportunity to take another subtle jab at the Clinton family, this time toward Hillary.
"I know there's only one thing that would bring both of these Teams ... together, and that's to make sure that Hillary Clinton is not the next president of the United States," he said.

I can't believe people don't realize it was a joke. Actually he could have joked about that with Bill Clinton.
But I guess it takes brains to get witty humor: something most democrats obviously lack.
What's interesting to me is that CNN (the Clinton News Network)chose to use a very bad picture of Ann Romney. She is a pretty lady, but they decided to make sure she wouldn't appear that way to illustrate their ludicrous article.
I guess we should not be surprised that his comment is both sexist and shallow. He's a cardboard cut-out, and so is his wife. There are some brilliant possible first ladies and gentleman, and after eight years of this administration (the worst of my 60 yrs.), the next President is going to need all the help she/he can get!
But is she prettier than Larry Craig?

Why are Republicans always whining? They think CNN deliberatly altered Mrs. Flip Romney's picture just like they thought there was a Saddam-Osama connection.

This headline is ridiculous, this article is pointless, and the comments left by most of you are even more preposterous. To take a small wise crack like this and turn it into a point to bash a man’s wife by calling her names and ridiculing her looks, makes me have even less respect for most of you Hillary supporters. I guess it is better that a man not find his wife attractive and hook up with other women, such as the white house interns. I find the fact that Mitt actually likes his spouse and thinks she’s pretty to be a positive aspect. But then again, what else would I expect form “Billary” supporters, for you to actually have any morals???

I've seen Mitt Romney's wife, and she IS "prettier" than Bill Clinton. Bill Clinton is not - by a mile - anything approaching "pretty." In fact, I've always thought he was quite an ugly guy, since character shines through behind anyone's cosmetics, and Bill Clinton's character is very dark, very unattractive. For that matter, so is Hillary's.
Liberals sure don't have a sense of humor – but they never have. Actually, Bill is rather feminine looking. When I lived in Arkansas, a lot of people wondered just who he was interested in. I completely agree with you, Peg in Texas. Bill Clinton has severe psychological problems, as do all who sexually abuse and brutalize other human beings. It's a case of projecting onto others (and in males, it's a case of attempting to damage, destroy the feminine in a sort of "acting out" of jealousy, attempting to eradicate rivals, so to speak).
She's prettier than Hillary, too.

I have met Mr. Clinton at which time I refused to shake his hand because he disgraced his family, himself, the White House AND our country.
This man had yellow teeth, a red nose and ruddy red skin. The press has convinced all of you that he is charismatic. He is not...he is sleeeezy looking in person. ANYBODY is prettier than him, except for his ugly daughter and ugly FAT wife!
