Clinton: I am not a lesbian

WASHINGTON (CNN) - Sen. Hillary Clinton's sexuality is not the most pressing issue on the presidential campaign trail, but it is likely to get a fair amount of attention on a lazy Friday in the nation’s capital.

The Advocate asked Clinton about past rumors that she is gay.

The New York Democrat tells “The Advocate” that she is not a lesbian, according to a story in Friday’s edition of The New York Daily News.

"It's not true, but it is something that I have no control over," Clinton tells the magazine in a story set for publication next week.

“People will say what they want to say," she added.

The comments came in response to a question posed by Sean Kennedy, an editor of the Advocate: "How do you respond to the occasional rumor that you're a lesbian?"

Kennedy tells CNN he asked Clinton about the rumors because "they are a point of solidarity between her and the LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender) community."

"Because her political opponents, and others, have used the word 'lesbian' to hurt her personally and politically, she knows first hand the stigma associated with homosexuality just as gay people do," Kennedy said. "She did not seem surprised by the question in the least and responded like the experienced politician she is."

The interview was conducted immediately after last month's Human Rights Campaign presidential forum.

UPDATE: The Advocate has published the full article on its Web site

    To Tom in Dedham Mass.:

Dick Morris WAS in the Clinton White House until he got caught sucking a prostitute's toes during the 1996 Democratic Convention. For this, he was fired. Since then, he's made his living by appearing on Fox and other Republican-friendly media to repeat the right-wing Clinton slander du jour.
When you say that no Republican politician has ever called Sen. Clinton a lesbian, that may be right (although don't bet more than $10 on this), but it's certainly irrelevant.
This is not how these things work. Instead, Fox or Limbaugh or some other right-wing mouthpiece features Ed Klein or Dick Morris or some other right-wing hack. The hack spews anti-Clinton bile, the mouthpiece broadcasts it, the other mouthpieces repeat it, and pretty soon it starts to show up in the MSM where it poisons the minds of the ill-informed and the wilfully ignorant. Republican office-holders benefit by looking virtuous and winning elections until they bankrupt the country, lie us into perpetual war, and get caught in airport bathrooms trying to pick up police officers of the same sex. THAT'S how it works.
Either you don't know this, in which case, stop listening to right-wing media and get some real information. Or you do, but you'll say anything to "win" an argument. Same prescription.
(And if Sean Hannity hasn't had Ed Klein or some other clone on one of his shows to make the self-same "allegations," I'll listen to three hours of his wretched radio show, regardless of the damage to critical thinking skills.)

lesbian. Even if she is, so what, who cares. Mrs Clinton is so caring and giving she does care about the platform that she has had for 15 years. She has struggled to make things happen. I appreciate her spunk, her fight. Not sure who I will vote for, but Hillary is doing a great job as a woman in a mans world.

    dawn – Gaithersburg:
So Dick Morris gets fired for sucking a prostitutes toes and is then excommunicated from the Clinton circle, but Bill Clinton can receive oral sex from an intern (not much older than his own daughter) in the oval office, do who knows what with a cigar and is now deemed a saint by the Hillary lovers.

I don't want these people in the White House again. I voted for him once, and I am NOT nostaligic about the Clinton days.

Are you so naive as to think that the left doesn't have the same political hacks you mention on the right. All of Air America, the daily Kos, Moveon etc. . . As far as people are concerned, Carville, Randi Rhodes, Ed Schultz and Stephanie Miller (although she is pretty damn funny) are all jokes. The only difference, Hannity/Limbaugh are way more successful(don't confuse that with me agreeing with them). The two parties are run the exact same way. To say anything other just shows how blind you are. Get a clue. If it works for one party, you can be sure the other party will adopt it. This goes to the saying, you think your sh%@ don't stink. Guess what everyones does!

What does Hillary Clinton's sexuality have to do with her ability to become president? As with her gender, it has absolutely nothing to do with it.

Why should being a lesbian "hurt her personally and politically?" There are far more important issues in this country with which we need to contend.

We need to stop talking about sexuality and abortion (issues about which we may, and probably never, will agree) and talk about the important policy issues?

If she is, or isn't, I'd be cool with it anyway. I kinda wish she was though, she's a strong leader and I support it.

The right-wingers know that Hillary has the experience, intelligence, and courage to do what's best for our great country. If she's elected, we'll very likely enjoy the same prosperity that we did under her husband. This scares the right-wingers to death. That's why they start ridiculous rumors like this, because they know they can't get her on her qualifications.

    I've heard this somewhere before...
But, media, don't even begin with this "Because her political opponents...". Sure, try to blame the smoke on her 'political opponents' - don't even try it.

All the attacks to Sen.Hillary Clinton are a sign that they are afraid she will win the Presidentie. I wish those haters leave her alone. It is plain jealousy. Her Health Program sound fantastic. All the others who are critizing Hillary on it don't have a clue how they will do it.

Good luck Senator Hillary Clinton, my thoughts and vote are with you.

This has to be the longest-running piece on the ticker. Well over 24 hrs.

This morning we have 2 entries on Ms Rodham Clinton running concurrently, none for the others.

Is this an early indication of their irrelevace? I am tempted to say 'Go woman, go'.

I tend to travel in conservative circles and no one, and I mean NO ONE that I know have ever, ever, ever bought up the issue or wondered about Mrs. Clintons sexuality.

I really would like to know who this mysterious group of people are that is saying this because I haven't heard it at all.

When the Advocate can come up with specific names of people or incidents in which this has occurred then I'll believe it, but I'm extremely suspect about the motives of anything that the Advocate does and print.
