Clinton: I am not a lesbian

WASHINGTON (CNN) - Sen. Hillary Clinton's sexuality is not the most pressing issue on the presidential campaign trail, but it is likely to get a fair amount of attention on a lazy Friday in the nation’s capital.

The Advocate asked Clinton about past rumors that she is gay.

The New York Democrat tells “The Advocate” that she is not a lesbian, according to a story in Friday’s edition of The New York Daily News.

"It's not true, but it is something that I have no control over," Clinton tells the magazine in a story set for publication next week.

“People will say what they want to say," she added.

The comments came in response to a question posed by Sean Kennedy, an editor of the Advocate: "How do you respond to the occasional rumor that you're a lesbian?"

Kennedy tells CNN he asked Clinton about the rumors because "they are a point of solidarity between her and the LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender) community."

"Because her political opponents, and others, have used the word 'lesbian' to hurt her personally and politically, she knows first hand the stigma associated with homosexuality just as gay people do," Kennedy said. "She did not seem surprised by the question in the least and responded like the experienced politician she is."

The interview was conducted immediately after last month's Human Rights Campaign presidential forum.

UPDATE: The Advocate has published the full article on its Web site

People who think she should be president should just go ahead and shoot themselves in the face, just get it over with now. I hope to capture the faces of clinton supporters when she is wiped off the map by the stiff competition. She is THE WORST MISTAKE AMERICA could make after this whole BUSH fiasco. WAKE UP.

Hillary is not a lesbian and Larry Craig is not gay. I think I understand now.

    What is the point here?

America and I are ready for anyone other than the criminals in power now.

Be it Mickey, Scooby or my dog Nahla!

Sexuality, Race and Religion are not a disqualifier.

Golly, she must be a lesbian. After all, we all know they are NO gay people in the Republican party! Meanwhile, Hilary remains a real trooper. She's fluffed off the allegations and doesn't care ("I have no control over it."). The woman has a tough skin. Another reason she'd make a great president! And P.S. her husband did more good for this country than Bush could ever dream of doing.

Someone needs to look up Frank DeLuca one of the websites he noted for us to look up for "proof" Hilary Clinton is a lesbian says nothing of the sort just talks about her one of her political staff persons. This is probably planted by a Republican who is starting a smear campaign and this is the best they can come up with.

Hillary Clinton says she's not a lesbian, and Larry Craig says he's not gay, or ever has been gay...when a politician says it, we assume they're telling the truth!

Who cares if she is or she isn't? This country elected a freaking moron to the presidency twice. That's a hell of a lot more significant than Hillary's personal business. C'mon America, get a clue. The Republicans are evry bit as dangerous as the Fundamental Islamists and it's up to the thinking people of this country to right the wrongs of the past 7 years of the stupid puppet boy president and Nazi vice president.

"Bee" wrote: "Of course she is a lesbian, thats why Bill like Monica. Beyond every rumor their is an Iota of truth."

Following that logic, one could say that every wife whose husband has had an affair is a lesbian. Sometimes even false rumors contain an "iota of truth," but Bee is pretty gullible if he/she believes that is always the case. But somebody has to buy the trash tabloids. 😉

I am saddened that–with all the real and significant problems this country faces–Americans focus instead on trivial matters. I am not optimistic about the future of our country for the first time in 50 years...voters don't seem to care about issues or possible solutions. All Americans seem to care about is people's dirty laundry. If we lose the war on terror, it will be because of that attitude...not because of what we do in Iraq or Afghanistan.

    Wake up, America!

Why would Hillary stoop so low as to even respond to such a question, she is a classy candidate and should not be drawn ito such discussions.

Anything to not get a Democrat as President, We need to focus on what she can do for this county and that is end this war. That is only making Bush more rich, and the poor more poor.

What a dumb storyline. Really, CNN, focus on ACTUAL news. She's a married woman. Leave her sexuality alone and focus on her politics.

She's a smart politician, which must be why immature journalists feel the need to make up bogus stories that detract from her intellect.

Are Americans not tired of smear tactics by now? Look at what the person has done in the past– its always an indicator of what you can look for in the future!

I hearken back to a long time ago (yesterday) when the Republicans posting on these blogs were in an uproar when Clinton jokingly referred to Cheney as Darth Vader.

Now they are attempting to paint her as a homosexual. Once again, the hypocrisy is mind-numbing.

The rumors of her being a lesbian are sexist, because it's the trademark response of weak men who are afraid of a strong intelligent superior and highly successful woman like Hillary. Also, as a gay man myself, I am actually ticked off with the Advocate even asking her the question, because the rumors are not worth even asking about! Further, how about that Condie Rice? She's rumored to be a lesbian, and there's actual concrete proof of it! She co-owns a house with a long time friend of the same sex from Stamford who's very liberal and progressive, they share lines of credit, they go to football games together, and Rice's best friend is another long time friend from Stamford – a gay man. In contrast, there is nothing concrete to even think of a possibility that Hillary is a lesbian. And if she were one, she'ld be proud enough to say she is!

I'm definitely not a fan of Senator Clinton, but when I saw this news story online, I couldn't believe someone took the time to ask the question. Come on people, let's keep our eye on the ball here.

Wow! The U.S. is speeding toward full-blown Fascism at the hands of the most insidious, corrupt administration in American history; an unethical Congress that has failed to function in over 12 years; civil rights and adherence to the Constitution are a quaint little thing of the past, just as quaint as The Geneva Convention and Habeas Corpus; "corporatization/ privatization have made billionaires out of thieves and murderers like Blackwater, KBR, Bechtel, and Halliburton (as well as all the politicians who keep these corps. in their pockets; genocide continues unchecked in the Sudan; the Middle-Class has effectively been eliminated; over a million Iraqis are refugees from their own country; nearly 4000 American military are dead along with 10's of 1000's of injured; the entire world has been destabilized to the point of a pending nuclear holocaust; and the U.S. mainstream media – who control the "message" have laid completely dormant at best, and willfully complicitous at worst, throughout the Bush/Cheney extermination of every American value or mission once held dear to furtherance of our American Dream.

But, let’s divert the public’s attention to O.J., Clinton’s sexuality, Britney and K-Fed. Sure, that’s more important than ending a completely unjust war, sparing our military from grave danger, restoring our economy, ending genocide, etc.

The Bush/Cheney administration, and its cabal of conspirators, should be tried for war crimes, but our Congress is more interested in censuring an ad about General Patraeus (willing Patsy and victim of Bush politics) because it was from a liberal organization than it is about doing the business of America. How about we talk about the “real” news: it is traitorous Republicans, not spineless Democrats, in Congress who are filibustering every piece of legislation offered; it is Republicans continuing this ghastly war, not Democrats. It is irrelevant to know Clinton’s sexual identity as it has absolutely NO impact on her ability, or lack thereof, to lead this country on the right and honorable path.

Grow up!!! Please grow up and refute the spell being put upon you, before America is so deeply entrenched in Fascism that there is no escape.

I worked with Secret Service Agents when Bill was on the west coast as President. He always stayed in Santa Monica at the Miramar while Hillary stayed at the Bonaventure in downtown LA. (Odd considering they were married.) The agents said that both of them always had a blonde woman to meet them at their rooms. She preferred blondes too.

With a man like Bill Clinton, how could she possibly be a lesbian. I'm with her, don't pay any attention to them Ms. President of the US, keep working on health care for all and higher education too so we don't have to listen to airheads.

Thanks, CNN. Another example of liberal media bias. Instead of focusing on how Clinton think that distinguished Army generals are liars and refused to take her chance to repudiate herself by voting to condemn attacks on the integrity of distinguished members of the military. Instead we get some blather about about sexual orientation.

I don't care if Hillary is straight, lesbian, or bi. What matters is that she would make a terrible commander in chief during a time when we're at war with a group that killed 3000 Americans and attacked our main military headquarters. That's what's important.
